get a EG CIVIC Si HATCH.

has a d16a engine and its a 1.6 LT DOHC NON VTEC.

should be under that price range easily.

or if u want newer.... civic cxi/gli hatch.... but theres not much performance there... some of the 1996-97 should be around that price.....

i dont think $9000 car is worth modifying... they could have a lot of km's on it chances are u gonna end up buying a new engine later on worth another 4 5G's so why dont you just save up a bit more, dont rush coz u might regret it later on, and if ur gonna modify a car, get the one that u really wanted not others want, vti-r's are a pick go for the vtec power man!

The only problem with the EG (92-95) Si is that it was only in production 92 to mid 93 so it's the older of the EG civic's..
IMO a good condition GLi is a good car, but if you can find a good condition VTi for under 10,000 - BUY IT instead.. IF you want to go DOHC VTEC down the line, it is already wired for VTEC etc. PLUS the VTi has all electrics, rear discs, rear stabilizer bar and a moon-roof - so IMO it is better to invest $$ in this model than for example a Breeze...

for $9k, you MIGHT be able to get a high KM average condition EK (95-98) CXi, but these are the entry-level no-frills civic's.. however still a zippy little car.
