hey guys in short ive recently come into a cheap b16a at mates rates $900ish. But i am after somthing with a lil more power. Would it be cheaper to do a b20 conversion, considering i am getting the b16 for so cheap? Or would it end up costing just as much as a b18c. Thanks guys :)

Does the b16a inc gearbox?
Because if you go with the B20... you would have to then source out a gearbox to fit... which will add up!
Nothing wrong with the b16a... but for a coupe or sedan, would be better with something that has more torque.

it will cost you ~1.5-2k for all parts to get it to a reliable b20.
that includes conversion kit, block, arp rod and head bolts and all servicing equipment such as oils, pumps and belts.

yeah the plan is if i can get it cheap enough to boost it EJ8 with a boosted b20 would be an awesome sleeper.

B18c setup would set you back at least $5k. If you can get a complete B16a engine with gearbox for $900, I would do the following:
B20b short block $800
VTEC conversion kit $300
Head studs $150
Rod bolts $75
Water pump $75
Timing belt $75
Gaskets $100
HD Clutch $400
Additional parts $1500
Total $4375
Then I would be looking at getting I/H/E + ECU maybe a light flywheel as well. Personally I wouldnt boost a B20b since they have much thinner sleeves compared to the other B series engines.

i reckon b20* the bugger. its much cheaper than a b18c* and has the similar torque figures with the hp equivalent to a b16** and hopefully u can find a non thrashed one seeing that its non-vtec. its a cheap way to satisfy ur power needs and with some bold ons I/H/E i reckon it will run quite well. thats jus my opinion.
