super noob question here.

Are all H7 HID bulbs (for example) the same whatever brand you buy? And this would be the same physical shape/size etc as a halogen bulb?

Thanks

Yep!
All bulb sizes will be the same no matter what brand you buy.

A HID H7 (for example) connector will be the same as a H7 halogen connector

H7 it the model, therefore all manufacturers need to follow the sizing otherwise it wouldn't be a H7

yea, i wasnt quite sure. Take the home lightbulbs for example. The screw type has so many different shapes and sizes. The screw part is the same but the rest is different. So i thought it might be the case for car bulbs. Same socket but didnt size/shape for the rest

another q

For example: If brand "A" ballasts blows up, can i use other brands to replace? Do I need to lookout for specs?

Also applies for bulbs
For example: If 1 or both bulbs blows up for brand "A", can I use other brands to replace?

thanks

NO~~~~! H7 HID bulb might not fit into some H7 halogen bulb housing.

for example Mazda 3 is using H7 halogen, but normal H7 hid bulb wont fit easy, the spring that use to hold the bulb wont hold HID H7, unless you modify it!
or 02-06 corolla is using H7 halogen, hid h7 will fit easy~~~!

06 golf GTI is uing H7 halogen, but H7 hid bulb cant fit on it without modification on the headlight housing!!!!

generally it will work, but

1) slim ballast is using different connection than normal big ballast, before you buy, make sure is the same connection

2) just make sure is the same 35w ballast!

serious? How come all the above say that all H7 are the same? If they are the same, why wont they fit?

coz i install hid to different car everyday!!!! :p

is the headlight housing design, it can put the hid bulbs in, but is the way how will the hid bulb hold in firmly

in some euro car like golf or bmw, they plug the h7 halogen into a cap base first, than twist the cap into the headlight, so they dont come with any spring at all. than if you dont modify, you cant hold the hid bulb!

this one looks like its held down by a screw.
WOW, didnt know that. Cos i thought (after reading) that all bulbs are same shape. Kinda universal. Fingers crossed that my H7 HID kit will fit

shouldnt be worries, coz aftermarket projector headlight design for hid anyways!!!!

Not related to topic but just recycling thread.

I know that you cannot touch bulbs with hand as oil from hand could damage the bulb. But is it ok to touch bulb with gloves (sandwich ones - clear white type)?
The reason for this is that i cannot see where to put bulb into hole only by feel. So im thinking if i hold onto the bulb gently with glove and feel my way to the hole, then drop it in. Maybe also wet glove with metho spirit before touching bulb?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

ahhh dry cotton. Can i use sandwich gloves? Its the clear see through rubbery ones. I need to hold the bulb to protect it from knocking into things.
