Hey guys
Just interested in what you all think...
As some would know, my DC2R is up for sale at the moment.
I was just wondering how ppl feel about test drives...
1. At what point would you let someone test drive your pride and joy?
2. Would you go with them?
3. What leg would i have to stand on if i handed them the keys and then they stacked it, i mean i doubt my insurance would pay out on something like that!!
I mean i wouldn't buy a car without a drive (and i don't expect anyone to buy mine without), but it has never come up as an issue when i have been interested in one, most ppl have been very accomodating, mainly because i don't stuff people around, i'm interested or i'm not.
I don't just want tyre kickers taking my baby for a thrash regardless of whether it's for sale or not.
Any advice/ experiences would be much appreciated!!

recently i sold my other car which is Proton Satria GTi...........
i let them test drive it, BUT.
1. i definately go with them (dont trust no one even he gave you his driving license etc)
2. becuz you there u know at least they wont trash it or red line the **** out of your car.
3. Be really firm n dont look like a joker/kids. Some times ppl tend to take advantage of you when u are really nice & friendly etc.
4. You can tell if they are really interested or juz tyres kickers lol.......
let say u have some 17 yrs old kids that juz got p plate & wanted to buy your DC2R, as if u let them drive.
instead you take them for a drive not they drive ur car.
that my exprience when i sold my satria GTi.
hope that help.

1. I'd let them test drive it if they seem serious about buying the car. If they came and ask if it does hektik skidz i'd tell them to get lost.
2. Yes I would, every time.
3. Your policy may vary, but my insurance covers a test-drive situation on the condition that I was a passenger in the car with them at the time. Check your policy.
If you are unsure of whether the person is serious or not, or if you don't like the look of them, offer to take them for a drive instead.

1. If it was a DC2R, id say bring me $500 cash as a deposit. I will only let you test drive the car on the condition that you have done all the other looking you need to do, and are satisfied that if this car drives well and passes mechanical inspection that you will buy it.
2. Without a doubt. My insurance policy covers a crash in such a situation, as long as I am a passenger

consider taking a friend along with you for piece of mind , or take another car to follow with you. Carjacking is a very real threat especially to DC2R owners....

With all the threads lately about car jacking with this particular car, this should be your priority!

i agree with everything else you said except the whole 17yr-18yr old thing when they just got P plates and want to buy dc2r .. i dont find that too uncommon that some 17 or 18 yr olds who just got their license wanna buy a Type R since Type R is a legal (in vic anyway) good nice sports car thats fairly quick n all good etc without turbo. Me n friend went around looking at DC2 Type Rs lookin to buy and we actually had money to buy straight off if the car was good condition with no concerns about vicroad matters etc (but then we didnt end up gettin a dc2r he went and bought the new civic type r fn2 lolz) and for this threads main topic :
everything that everyone else has said and yer it depends on the guy wanting to buy and as others said, you can easily tell when they are just tyre kickers. You just gotta know how to look at people etc and im not talkin just "looks" lolz.

Geeez thanks guys, i never even really thought bout getting carjacked for it!
Last night this guy rings from a private number and wanted to look at it like NOW, when i said i was busy, he's like "that's ok, what's ur adress?"
Thanks to this thread, i told him i'd give it to him when i have time for him to look at the car, as all i could think was waking up in the morning with no car in the driveway :(
I will also contact the insurance today and see where they stand on it!
Thanks guys, i really appreciate the feedback on this one, as i haven't really sold a car before, my 1st car went to my bro and i stacked the second, so this is it!!

If you're really worried about it, there's no harm in arranging to meet at a place nearby, perhaps a shopping centre or some other place that has CCTV cameras.

Yeah, that's what i was thinking, just mainly so that no one has the residential address of where the car is kept!!
Not that i think anyone is particularly dodgy, but who can you trust nowadays??

yeah...ask for several forms of ID with address' on them and make copies. you could even ask for ID from their friends who come along for the test drive too. can never be too safe.

the best thing to do, LEGALLY. would be to make a photocopy of their i.d and do a write up saying. if you drive my car and if any damages are made whilst you are driving as you are only driving to test the car you will be held solely responsible for and will have to pay for damages. as you are the test driver of the car as you are intrested in buying it you sha'll not drive over 4-5000 RPM or you will have to pay for damages exceeding $1000 blah blah blah

i reckon this is a good way to play around with him and also its a legally binding document. after this he knows not to play around... =) sometimes its more than just a stance that you hold to show that your serious.
=) hope this helps.

Actually this is a good advise... Make couple of copies.. When they come in to test drive, you hand in these papers and if they're agree they'll sign... if not then it's a no go... I'll consider this approach next time I am selling one..

how many people take photocopiers to a test drive?
best place is to meet up at a servo. always alot of people around and cctv.
