hi all, im looking at buying a 97' Civic hatch. i was just wondering about a few mods to do with this car.
I am currently on my P's so i cant do to much performance wise... but a was thinking about doing the following:
1. Rims: would 17" fit without any modifications to the body?
2. Cannon muffler: am i allowed to have this on my P's
3. Pod filter: am i allowed to have this on my P's
4. Momo steering wheel, gear and handbrake knob, pedals, gear and handbrake boot: any other modifications to install wheel?
5. Lowered or bodykit: where in Canberra (preferably) could i have one installed and how much does a cheaper full kit cost roughly?...

thanks heaps, Jack.

also, could i use the front and rear parts of a kit of a sedan of this model or does the hatch have a different size?

why cant you do anything perfomance wise ?,

you know anything performance related is pretty much illegal, so are rims 1+inches than stock.

1. Yes the rims would fit
2. Cannon muffler is allowed but has to be under a certain sound level
3. Pod filter: Needs to be enclosed in either a box or something to cover it up
4. Momo steering wheel, cannot be used since the car has driver's airbag
5. Lowered or bodykit: not sure about these in canberra

you can use the sedan's front bumper but not the side or rear

feel free to correct me if any of my info is wrong =]

kayot1k, im not certain on the performance mods that are sutiable for a driver on their P's and plus i only reali want a nice sound, not reali into big power, and plus i dont have the cash for engiine mods. I personally more into the looks of the car e.g kit, rims, interior with just a few small engine mods.

Nismo3oi, thanks for ur help just wondering can i buy a pod filter with the box to enclose it coz ive only seen them sold by themselves? also if a go a cannon put onto it would the guys that install it know the sound output and if it is street legal or not? so no aftermarket steering wheel for me at all?... anyone else know of places in Canberra that do bodykits???... thanks guys!

BTW, 17" rims will fit as long as you keep the rolling diameter of the tyre the same and the width and offset are same as stock. You can usually go slightly wider and still clear the suspension and guards if you keep the same offset.

Same thing. As long as you size the tyre correctly (there is a limit to how low profile a tyre you can get though, so check that), use the right offset and maintain your tyre and rim width to a reasonable amount, it can fit. Remember though that if your tyre is very thin, you risk denting your rims from holes in the road.

If you want a decent muffler with a nice sound, probably a twin loop would be best to use. Low noise emissions and pretty mean sound :D

1. Yes the rims would fit
2. Cannon muffler is allowed but has to be under a certain sound level
3. Pod filter: Needs to be enclosed in either a box or something to cover it up NOT ALLOWED WHEN ON YOUR P'S AS IT IS A PERFORMANCE MOD
4. Momo steering wheel, cannot be used since the car has driver's airbag
5. Lowered or bodykit: not sure about these in canberra

I got 18" on my 98 EK hatch, the guards got rolled back and the only size that fits is 215/35/18 so make sure u get only those sized tyres!. my guards dont rub and car is lowered. good luck bud. (you can put 225 probably but guards will rub)

t3h_j@ckal, not sure if u can buy a pod filter with a box, try customizing the old box. and the guys who install your cannon should have the sound level tester. yes no aftermarket steering wheel lolz get the ek9 or dc5r steering wheel ;)

pretty much the same as you would do for any car... intake headers exhaust... stiffer suspension, bigger rims, better tyres.

probably better to keep it simple though.

bigger is not better (rims) stock size rims are normally the best

1.On a p-platers car you can have anything you want bro, anything you want, any engines aslong as they r N/A not turbo. If want a turbo must be 1.6ltr turbo only. As for down NSW and others Vtect engines are band for New p-plater comers.

2. Anything aslong as its a civic and its the same model all parts will fit. Can also use Ek parts aswell. Only the panels and bumpers will not fit. anything mechaniclly will fit such as (Side skirts, wires, Controll arms, etc etc.

3. All mods must be under legal specifications. Example noise lvl, hight of car, rims and tyres if they are scraping. Etc etc.

U want good mods.

For good parts use Lancer evolution parts, just like the civics usese ITR or CTR parts.

For mistubishi look for rally art perfomance, They are especially made for them.

Want to know more and I will help you as Ive got a Lan-evo myself.

vtec isnt banned in nsw, turbos are, not turbo diesal, v8s are banned not v6's. only HIGH powered v6's.

So all the older gogan mobiles are allowed (commordores) thats why so many p platers die in em in nsw. (cause they are shit heavy and handling is crap)
