Hello!
How long should you wait before driving away when the engine is cold? ie when starting for the first time.

Also - should one turn off the air-con once a trip is over.... so when you start the engine cold it does not have to power up the air con immediately?

I AM THE GUY TRYING TO GET 20+ YEARS FROM MY ACCORD VTI.

Wait 30 seconds, then drive with max 3000rpm and light throttle. When the coolant temp needle reaches the middle, double the time taken to reach that, then you can use heavy throttle.

Don't have to turn the aircon off after a trip. The aircon is off when you start the car. But turning it off and letting the fan run for a while reduces condensation which slow down mould growth.

My understanding is that the reason for not using heavy throttle imediately the engine comes to operating temp is that the oil temp lags a bit behind the coolant temp, and the gearbox temp lags even further behind. You don't want to use more than light throttle until all the fluids and components are at the correct operating temperature.

Sounds like an interesting long term experiment, are you volunteering your car?

my car is 19 years old and i thrashed the shit out of my original, unrebuilt engine everyday until i took it out for a b-series

at the end of the day he has a vti accord which will only ever see street use. he's not going to run it into the ground unless he stops servicing it.

i've seen crv's that have had NO SERVICING until about 70-80k and they've still been fine, with no adverse affects. (same base engine k24a)

I've had two RAV4's that haven't been serviced for 50-60,000km and the intake cam gear broke off on both because there was like 1l of oil in the engine

Just drive it normally and try to service it on time but missing a service by a few thousand kms isn't going to kill it

Who looks forward to 20 years of VTI 2.4 Accord driving? That's like being diagnosed with 20 years of chronic depression and saying thank you.

pmp soundz like its his first car... just service it on time, never redline it things will eventually wear out and will need rebuilding... 20 years is pretty extensive

Doesn't look like you've kept anything else for 20 years...

Just service it regularly and don't wrap it around a tree

That's not a long term test of habitually red-lining it from cold, and habitually red-lining it from cold isn't the same thing as not servicing the car properly.
