The VEi is designed for economy, so if you want decent power, get the VTi. The VTEC system in the VEi is designed for fuel saving, whereas the VTi's VTEC is for power output.

VEi 1.5L
Power 66kW @ 5500rpm
Torque 129Nm @ 4500rpm-4500rpm

VTi 1.6L
Power 88kW @ 6300rpm
Torque 145Nm @ 5500rpm-5500rpm

i have a vei... i think u should get a vti. even though it will consume a little more fuel it should have a lot more go than the vei.

when i got my car i was like vtec-e!!! cool its sohc vtec.

vtec-e does actually kick in yo!!!
at 3000 rpm or heavy acceleration it goes from 12 to 16 valve operation and feels like u just turned off the aircon!!! talk about exileration.

vei is definately for economy,
and if you really want power id say get the vti coupe, not the sedan - thats in the middle id say. the sedans only kicking 88kw, with vtec-e and even with vtec on it cuts out a cylinder once u hit a certain speed. fuel economy is great with the vti, especially with the cvt tranny. get stuck in stop go traffic and you're never over 1800rpm (with a soft foot) even going up to 50kph.
the vti coupes got the better head and with 96kw of sohc power, thats almost as good as similar sized new cars..
