Civic Engine Number details

Wasn't sure if this was too much for the normal civic area, as its more of a technical issue but here it goes....

Hi guys need help quickly.
Was looking at an EU Civic which was a 2000 Oct version hatchback. Its the VI model.

Now the owner seems abit werid in that after we put the deposit they were not the owner and said that the car belonged to his wife. Now here's the fishy part.

1) He didn't produce the wife/license of the registered owner
2) the car was registered at a different address
3) the last 4 numbers of the engine number were larger than the rest and in a different flowing type font. All the ones before it were in a computer type font.

Now can anyone tell me if the engine number is like this on an EU? i've seen a 2001 version and the engine number is all the same font.

Lucky i only put a $200 deposit which we will most likely ask for back if it doesn't check out.
Already done a Revs check and got a certificate and did an RTA check.

I just sounds werid otherwises the car seems in A1 condition

Update:
Rang RTA technical dept (1300 137 302) - They could not give me a clear answer either or on the engine number

Rang Honda Australia (1800 804 954) - They also could not confirm if the number was correct or not like that.

Rang Peter Warren Honda Service - They said they thought the number should be all the same font.

So far i'm asking for a refund, but anyone have one with this same marking?

Would just like to know for sure

hmm yeah that's not the issue. The issue is that the font on the engine on the last 4 digits is different

does it have the right number of digits in the engine number?

go find another one for sale and check what it looks like :thumbsup:

Yeah looked at a 2001 model and all the font is the same. A computerised type font.

We've reported the car to the police, but they reckon they can't do anything about the deposit. Useless bunch.

Guess its a lesson not to give more than $50 deposit
