Hey Guys,
Was tryna remove the drain bolt to drain the oil and i was stupid enough to strip the threads off it by placing the ring-spanner on it and kicking it downwards to unplug it, i did that 5 times b4 i realised i was actually getting nowhere in life and the oil sump bolt is completey stripped to the point where its shape is now demented.
I tried using a heavy clasper to clasp the bolt, lock it and turn it, i demented it more. any suggestions before i take it to a mechanic??
P.S i bought a new drain bolt and washer from Honda but i need this crap off!!

there are a few things you can do , but incase you screw it even more id go to a experienced mech. and get them to fix the problem. Hand over the money to fix it or retap a new bolt and learn the hard way.

haha, second "I’m a retard and can't be bothered doing things properly" thread related to oil plugs in 24 hours... nice.
Sorry for being unsympathetic, but you know that mechanics very rarely consider kicking a car and/or tool to be a constructive move, right?
I think you were trying to undo it the wrong way
I simply do not believe that it was that tight...

believe me it was tight, but it wasnt that tight... the only thing is when i played the hexagon-spanner on it, little did i realise it was only just hanging off the bolt, not firmly onto it, a kick , 2, 3, that brought the bolt to its knees. any suggestions?

much easier.

BS man!
dupac->
15-01-2008, 11:05 PM
would be cheaper somewhere else.
just cbf messing around.. went to a mech that wasnt busy and got it fixed asap.
what about if you just pick up a used sump from a wreckers and swap them over? they shouldnt be too much.

So have you stripped the thread or rounded the head off?
I also cannot belive you stripped the thread unless your turnning it the incorrect way???

From the sound of things he rounded the bolt.
Use a big vise clip and give that a go. Or use a 16mm socket hammer it into the sump and use a breaker bawrt and give it a quick but strong yank!. It might damage the sump, you might be luck and get away with it.

See, its all because gay mechs. do the nut tight.
Its a scam, they do it REALLY TIGHT, so regular people cant take it off, and when you ruin it you have to take it back to them...:rolleyes:

I reread what you did.
Need to make sure them sockets are on square before you shock it off.
If channel locks are not gonna do the trick then drill and bolt extractors are gonna be your best bet, unless you could weld on a nut.
Good luck.

Sockets were always on good, just they were those with lots of sides. Not a single hex...

angle grind the nut off
1996ek1
16-01-2008, 12:53 PM
Then do what with the rest of it stuck in the sump ?
dupac->
16-01-2008, 02:16 PM
dont angle grind
lol
just take to the mechanic. unless you want to take ur own sump out.
angle grind will take away half ur problem.
lol

DO NOT ANGLE GRIND IT OFF....
My adivce is to weld a metal piece(10-15cm long) to the nut then hopefully that weld is strong enough just yank it....hopefully you get what im talking about. OR try to get a GOOD set of vice grips and see how that goes.
If not then drop the whole sump LOL

I still like my angle grinder, but your right your gonna need to take off the sump to clean out the area properly ;p

have u tried bashing a smaller single hex socket on yet to get it off works on wheel lock nuts so should work on the sump if its not completely round or u could file the bolt edges down to a 16mm and then make sure u use a single hex socket and a breaker bar should come off

this is a poor thread lol...honda says "29 ft/lbs" or " 39NM" to properly seal a NEW sump washer.
But undoing , should be a one hand process with a spanner or ratchet....WTF are you guys doing wrong ?

16-01-2008, 05:06 PM
Lol. I took to mechanic and he put it on a hoist. He had trouble with his huge ass breaker bar....
lol either we both weak or its tight?
bennjamin
16-01-2008, 05:09 PM
hmm. Looks like it was either really overtightened or locktite or similar was used on the thread.
But now , your thread probably is fkced

16-01-2008, 05:09 PM
tried the rattle gun on it

16-01-2008, 05:23 PM
hmm he installed the new sump plug pretty smoothly, hand tightend, then just used a spanner and did about 1/2 a twist on it
just kept gently hitting the spanner untill it was nice and tight.
So i guess thread is fine?

16-01-2008, 05:37 PM
er?

or threaded it?
confused.
as long as its fixed i guess.

Mechanic hoisted it and pulled it out with a massive clamp
Charge = $25 :))))
dupac->
17-01-2008, 10:30 AM
but was it the thread that was fcked?
or was is the end of the bolt that you fcked up?

17-01-2008, 07:11 PM
lol.
I cant believe he did it free...
I didnt ruin it that bad, the edges were sort of round.
A socket could still go on it without slipping (if you hit it on properly) but not the best...
