mugen experimental spec civic type RR; oh dear.

Although this car may have gotten the attention of the attendants of Tokyo's 2008 auto salon, it's oh-so-appealing mugen badge does not change the fact that this car is absolutely hideous.

Mugen thought the best way to emphasize that they have made the civic more 'sporty', is to leave the aluminum bonnet and carbon-fibre front clip unpainted to emphasize its 'light-weight" nature; car roof, centre console, door panels and Recaro bucket seats all contain carbon-fibre.

As i read on about this car, as much as i wanted to write a review on my hypothesis that the extra "R" in Type RR was for "retarded", i must admit that i found it difficult to criticize the new 2.2L k20 engine [giving it 260hp and 235Nm of torque with a higher redline] and electronic enhancements.
The newly developed I-TCMS [Intellligent Tire Condition Monitoring] monitors tyre pressure and temperature, while the upgraded 6-speed sequential gearbox allows gear changes in 80 milliseconds and the added LSD helps this fwd to actually get around corners rather than understeer.
Other appealing extra's include exclusive Mugen wheels wrapped in semi-slick tyres hiding massive Brembo brakes and a titanium exhaust system which helps the car makes the car even lighter by shaving off another 7.6kg.

After all the reading and writing [i may be delirious since it is 3am], i am actually finishing this post with a positive conclusion; provided that the car will come complete with the same colour paint all around, I actually wouldn't mind if the car lost the title of "experimental".

Considering it's an AS car, I think it's great. I mean the point of these shows isn't only to focus on cars which are ready for production and can be used on the streets immediately... but rather, to showcase new technologies, or just to.. well show off. And it seems to do so rather effectively.

i totally agree that the car is absolutley hideous. they try to show off way too much as i stated. but the k20 and the electronic systems actually make the car match up to the 'sporty' image honda marketed- not to mention i have a soft spot for carbon-fibre. however i would still never buy one; i just think it would be a great production car.

It looks like they cant afford to finish the whole body with CF so they have to stop halfway... If they can convert the whole body into CF then it will definitely a 10x :thumbsup: Or even if they leave it as it is (the original Mugen RR)

Clearly it's not a car which you would take out onto the street- whilst the colour choice is a bit.. obnoxious, like I said, it's still an AS car and that's it. That being said, if they wanted it to look more 'complete', they should've used more CF rather than just putting on the front.

Think about it - the Civic is an FF-layout, where the front is heaviest (engine, trans, etc are all in the front). It only makes sense to lighten up the front with the CF fenders and aluminum hood. If you CF'd the whole car, then the balance would be off.

The Accord Euro looks hot. It has a purpose. Makes a good family car and nice looking sedan. The civic was initially made to be a some what sporty car with little weight but the 8th generation ones seem to be well, a cheap accord. It no longer resembles a civic except for the name.
