Just a thought, i tried to buy some ATF, just Castrol Dextron III, but was told that it was bad for the Civic VI??? They then recommended normal honda ATF.

Has anyone heard of anything like this? Is there something special about the Civic VI 2001 model? Its not like its a CVT or has LSD or anything special.

Its a D17A2 motor

Honda develop quality tranny fluids designed to complement the tranny, so using aftermarket brands may result in tranny noise and/or excessive wear. There are some fluids that run fine, but its best to use Honda fluids to be on the safe side.

only fluid that is recommended to use oem is the power steering fluid on hondas

but then again i always use the oem stuff... makes me proud pouring a bottle of something with a honda sticker on it into my honda motor :D

plus i saw a sticker under the bonnet of my d16y4 to use honda oil in this performance motor or something lol

you know this VI civic doesn't have a power steering fluid spot???
Its confusing the hell out of me. I think its a sealed???

I've always used genuine Power steering & brake fluid, but oil & ATF used different brands

Either way ensure you stay far away from Penrite's oils. Had 3 differant experiences with them (in mates cars) which resulted in notching of gears, stiffer shifting as well as higher noise level.

I would use Honda OEM for all oils if you have stock internals. After all Honda designed the engines, they know what viscosity, additives and oil type is best. When it comes to engine oil though I find something more settling about running Motul Semi/Full Synthetic (@ the same Viscosity of OEM, of course) ;)
