i'm just wondering how a d16y4 with an AVO turbo kit would go in regards to reliability..

i've heard that the d16y4 rods are fairly weak.. and have heard stories where people's engines have given way after boosting..

like would an engine with an AVO kit be reliable enough to handle a few years of use ?

what sort of levels of boost can this thing handle before giving way..

just wanna hear some stories regarding the d16y4 with an avo kit, or similar kits..

just weighing up my options at the moment..

swap over to a d16y8, they can be easily purchased for 500bux.

avo kit that, you've seen my coupe. 7psi for the past 5 years and still going strong.

i'm leaning towards keeping the d16y4, or the same engine that came with my car..

just looking at how reliable these engines are.. as i know the y8 is pretty reliable when running low boost..

Dude my cars running the d16y4 GReedy Kit

Best value for money IMO

The avo kit's are great kits but are overkill if your running stock internals?

nah AVO kits are designed to run with stock internals.
The ones that cook are usually the guys to up the boost all the way

yeah, i haven't really heard of cars with AVO kits having any problems..

the stories i've heard involved custom kits..

Mines a EG4 kit so I would say yes it can handle low boost

Hey,

Weakness in hi-po D16's is the connecting rods and oil supply.

Consensus on d-series.org is above 200Hp Forged steel rods are required and care needs to be taken with the tune.

Also, Honda made the D16Y4/Y8 oil pumps barely right for the OEM configuration.
Spun bearings are a chronic D16 problem.

Suggested mods to the oils system can include:

toga high volume oil pump.
Ported oil housing.
Higher spring pressure on the oil pressure relief valve (a small 1mm shim will do it)
Morosso Accumulator 2 (oil accumulator)
Crank + rod bearing clearances given extra attention.
