View Full Version : D16Y8 clarification. Vtec or not Vtec.

Used the search, and didnt find a thread on it.

Couple of my, not so "honda educated" friends, have been trying to prove me wrong.

I want to find out once and for all, from profey-sional honda peoples.. lol


Anyway.
Friend has a civic coupe Vti.
Engine code is d16y8 xxxxxxxxxxx :/.
He didnt know he had vtec until i told him he did.
He started telling people, i mean .. hes proud hes got vtec. Wouldnt blame him though.
HOWEVER.
Some of my know it all friends think, that a vtec engine, needs a vtec rocker cover.

So my question is.
IS d16y8 vtec? and if it is, why is the rocker cover on coupe vti's look like the cxi engines?

please .. elaborate. so I may throw the monitor at my friends head.

d16y8 is sohc vtec
i dont think it has the vtec imprinted on the rocker cover.

but yeh. its vtec.

dunno why the yanks didnt put a vtec rocker cover like on the d16y1.. saving cost maybe?

i was considering to put a d16y1 cover on instead of the d16y8 cover but i painted mine already :p

yeh my brother/mate got the same car. i cant hear the crossover at all on auto, but on my brothers manual it screams <3

d16y8 got v-tech.

rocker cover has no v-tech labelling.
