can anyone comment on the steering of the jazz?

I can't really explain it, but when turning corners sometimes, it feels like the steering wheel is really light and turns too much for the corner.

Told you before that it can be a bit strange...

Yeah but it doesn't work anywhere near as good as what they make out in that link.

The steering (or the microprocessor) is all over the place and seems to have a bit of a delayed reaction I rekon

There's gotta be a way to fool it or disable it completely?

A fuse maybe? I haven't checked.

the steering is too light at times...
i've gone thru bends in the countryside at 70-80km/h and it seems ok
but
in the carpark... nuh uh

it also seems that on a corner exit, it doesnt centre by itself if you release grip on the steering wheel.

Kit I think it just takes a bit of getting used to more than anything, though I have never had the problem of it not straightening up by itself after a corner.

I did notice that the characteristics changed once the car was lowered and it took my a little bit to get used to it again.

I have never had any scary moment whilst driving. Most of my interesting experiences have occured whilst parking/going very slow. But again, I am used to it now.

I personally find the steering is only weird at low speeds. Power steering sure is nice for parking the car and so on.

I reckon you should just drive faster around corners. Works for me ;)

Speaking of the steering, when I trashed (oops I mean test drive) a VTi I didn't notice any of those weird feeling you guys have talked about. Is it just me or I didn't drive it for long enough (only 20 minutes) to notice that weird feeling about the steering?

I had a 93 Civic Si before I bought the Jazz VTi-s. I noticed the difference straight away between hydralically assisted and electric assisted.

* Electric assistance doesn't self centre as strongly. It requires a little effort to get is winding back to centre.

* When slowing down from say 60km/h to standstill, and trying to park, I noticed that the steering weighting was REALLY hard. When coming to a stop, it must take like a 1 second to re-adjust the weight for car-parking negotiation.

My 2 cents...Overall though, I do prefer electric steering as it has a much better feel from lock to lock. There are no lumpy moments!

the jazz could just be better off without power steering... removed the whole unit.. and you should get better steering feel..=)

The PS on the Jazz is just fine.. just need time to get use to...

You are right man!I got the same feeling. As the website introduction about eps.
The steering is lighter at low speeds, firmer at high.
Benefits include:
Reduced fuel consumption since there is no engine-driven pump
Compact dimensions and reduced weight
Greater programming flexibility
Smoother operation with reduced kickback.

Being as the power steering is electronic it is changeable. The 2006 JDM facelifted Fit has had the feel of the PS adjusted. I'm amazed by the fuel saving electronic power steering gives over hydraulic.

Do you know if it is easy to adjust??

I doubt the program would be easy to get into. Not like you can easily retune the rest of the car yourself without all the right gear.

Gone are the days of carbies and engine bays you could climb into easily to get to everything.

i've noticed that alot of newer cars have some funky power steering problems. They seem to allow the computer to control the amount of assistance you have with the steering to give the car a better feel. Sometimes my car, 2002 holden barina (crap), has a problem where the power steering will completely disable, or gets really hard to turn, especially at low speeds. I've gotton some error codes from the ecu sayin that there is somethin wrong with it but i've had somone check out the entire steering system and they gave it the all clear.

Not sure if this helps but its not just honda jazz's so don't feel as though you've got a cruddy car cause i'd love a honda jazz compared to my barina...

cheers
