Hi all,
well I'm new to all of this although I have posted a bit in other sections, so I'll sort of introduce myself as a new-ish owner of a DC5S (having owned the car since just before Christmas).

I know this topic has been covered before!! But I'd like to ask a few questions about different CAI's available for the DC5. It seems that there are 3 types that appeal to most people - Injen, Mugen and GruppeM. I know its basically useless to ask "which is better?", as everyone have their own opinions.

Firstly, there is quite a major cost difference between the three. Is it really worth spending the extra dollars on a Mugen or GruppeM intake as opposed to Injen?

Secondly, which kind of ties in to the first, is the Injen legal or can it be defected, as it is an exposed filter element. I've already been pulled over by police (just for an inspection I did nothing wrong!) in my area and my car is completely STOCK atm! So if it is not legal and there runs a risk of defect is it worth spending the extra bucks on the more expensive air box versions of GruppeM or Mugen?

Sorry for the long post :) thanks in advance.

in short, gruppe m and mugen are obviously the best to go for but the difference in power gains betwen them and injen are not even worth it! if ur after dyno proven performance and an AGGRESSIVE intake sound then injen is the way to go! u could pick up an injen intake posted from the states for around 400, mugen and gruppe m are almost double that.. and as far as i kno a full CAI isnt defectable bcoz the pod filter is not exposed in the engine bay like it would with an SRI (since it will be behind ur front bar with a CAI).. my opinion.. injen, its wat im going with.. btw have u ever heard of the AEM V2? thats another one to check out, although its sort of between a SRI and CAI..

the place where the injen one is located would be very hard to defect.
Its almost inclosed

i would say that if your worried about cost get the injen.. although you can get defected..

gruppem and mugen are both inclosed.. ive had a gruppem and i loved it.. i sell them if u want one

but for typeS ur front upper sway bar will have to be removed..

If not.. try researching on the j's racing intake.!

WTF? you dont have to remove any thing for the gruppeM. if it the new version its facelift compatible and backward compatible.

Please Note. WTF is shorter than What tha. Sorry is it sounds harsh to some sensitive ppl.

if u want torque/better daily drivability then go for gruppem/mugen intakes. if u want top end power then go for injen/AEM V2. and also if you dont wanna pay close to a grand for just an intake (i think headers are a better investment for something close to a grand) then go for the injen...jus my 2 cents

Thanks for the replies. Money would not normally be an issue but I've had to stop working lately due to a knee injury :o... and I go back to uni soon too! So there goes my big holiday income for now lol.

I'm still a bit confused as to which one to choose. I think I will narrow it down to GruppeM and Injen at this stage, although can anyone tell me about the J's Racing intake?

Unless you're willing to spend clsoe to 1.5k then Js racing is no go.

But main question is what is your budget.

And from the looks for things, i would say injen if you want decent gains for decent money

Hmm well keeping costs down is always preferable although I prefer to use quality parts if it is worth it so I have no problem spending money if what I am getting is quality and worth it in the long run :)

for ref this is what ur after IS this :

1 FR-0508 M's RAM AIR SYSTEM for Honda Integra Type-R DC5 RHD Only

DONT BUY THIS :

2 FR-0504 M's RAM AIR SYSTEM for Honda Integra Type-R DC5 RHD Only

My review :

http://ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65350&highlight=gruppem

if u plan alot for your car in the future.. i say go with injen and save the extra $$$.. if u plan to do the basic mods.. then get a gruppem/mugen

Xposed Im sure you didnt mean to be so fukn rude just then and ill forget about it.
That said there is no longer 2 part #'s. there is only one which suits both cars.
Here are the range list from gruppeM
http://www.gruppem.co.jp/application/ram_en/ms/honda.html

Which is the Facelift one, which as i said is backward compatible with the pre faclift strut brace

aiight..

El_dc5, i know that.. thus i told him to get the correct part #

there is little resale for gruppm in aus as they are costly.. But people here who stock it stock the old ones.. Gruppem actually started production again on the 20th of january this year.. it stopped making it at the begining of december this i sold them for $850 at that time coz i was getting discounts..

as long as he gets FR-0508 he wont have an issue..

I would suggest though if ur gna buy an injen.. buy a 2nd hand one.. try clubitr.com.au 500 abit expensive for a pipe and a pod..

if u mean AEM V2 its highly rated with good gains too.. alot of ppl in the states use it. its longer than an SRI and shorter than a CAI.. not sure why.. lol but google it

Theres an AEM SRI and AEM CAI. Cant remember the brand, but theres one which can be both as in the pipes can be reconfigured to be SRI and CAI.

Hmm I see well perhaps I will just go for Injen as its the cheapest... I like the look of the boxed versions (Mugen, GruppeM) but don't know if I can validate twice the price.

Hey guys,

I had a Mugen in my car. I didn't feel that much of a power gain compared to my Injen now.. For performance and bang for your Buck Injen is the best if your going performance.

But that said if you a show car kind of guy, You can't see the Injen Intake and you just have an empty space in you engine bay where you stock intake was. If you like the looks wise and like to show off, then yeah go for mugen or gruppeM.

Some guy is selling his Mugen CIA for $650 thats a good buy. when i paid 800 for mine.

but yeah i love my INJEN induction noise comes at 3500rpm, just makes this growl... it sound mad!!! where i didn't really here the mugen..

LOVE IT

hey mate
ive got an injen CAI on my dc2 and it sounds awsome. previously i had an AEM SRI and it was crappy haha.
when i installed the injen i immediately felt more power, the sound is awsome and the vtec seems to be more agressive. There is nothing like it at 6000rpm when dual butterflies open :D:D:D

I've got the GruppeM intake and though quite costly, (especially with the rates now, though it is improving) I can highly recommend this product - if it fits your budget.

Of course all three intakes you've listed have research and development put through, and similary, all have similar peformance outputs, but IMO, GruppeM wins my vote. My friend has the Mugen and another has the Injen, all equally as good as one another. Looks like it comes down to budget and how bling you are.

With the injen, wouldnt it be pain in the ass to wash/clean the air filter? Does the bumper need to be off every time a clean is required?

ive got injen, installation would definitely be harder (requires cutting splash guard, take out battery, take off bumper etc) than the gruppem and mugen.

looks wise it loses as well. big gap in the engine bay.

however out of the mods ive done to my car, that was by far my favourite. awesome sound, nice top end gain.

Yeh I just got one as well. Took me a little while to take bumper off. Installation was abit of a hassle for me but got it done eventually. It sounded awesome, got that deep throaty sound. Still enjoy the gain and sound of it.

It does get wet in winter but never had hydro locking problems. Yeh I guess filter change out will be time consuming in future but might give GruppM a try if price comes down later.

Injen bad for weight distribution! haha.
But yeh, i read everywhere about hydrolocking. Has anyone actually experienced it in normal city driving? I ask because my mates Euro has the fog light out to have direct air to the filter and he's never had such problems.

a good intake system that alot of ppl over look is the Fujita CAI

pretty mutch the same price and quality as Injen (looks the same too)

i find the pod design on the Fujita kit is a little better too ... the sound is a little more barky than the Injen and u get a bag and a bottle of nos energy drink with it lol
