I got some new 17" rims for the Euro.

They are VOLK SE37K as in the picture

http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/parts_info/volk_se37k/wheel2.jpg

Got them 2nd hand through a parts dealer. Pretty good bargin consider they are forged wheels and only 6.5kg each.

The colour is matt black at the moment as in the picture, I'm thinking about recoating them in Bronze colour what do you guys think?

My car is graphite colour...can't wait for the car to come so I can put them on!!

I reckon Bronze on a black/dark coloured Euro would look awesome!

BTW: Expect your car to be a bit quicker now!

Really nice! What offset and width rim - 7.5inch?

6.5kg is really light! I thought my Prodrives at 6.9 were light! Oh well, at least it beats the fat ass stockies

Bronze looks awesome - this Euros below is one of my favourites - nice clean car, no body kit, Pro Kit, 18" bronze Work Emotion! Drool... I really wanted the Work Emotions on my Euro but they are just damn expensive to buy new - the best quoted price I got was something like $1000 per rim without tyres...

Yeah, I like the stockies so much they are sitting on my balcony gathering dust but in mint condition!

I tried to sell them but got some ridiculously low offers (like $400) - I can't be bothered now. Hopefully someone with a Euro will eventually see the logic buying them from me for less than the cost of 4 Dunlop SP tyres. Go figure - not so easy to off-load a bargain these days. People suspicious I guess

They are +40 offset, 7.5 inch width. The rims will sit out a bit but it's alright.
Got them about half of the new price. so the same as what yfin paid for his Prodrives.

Did someone tell you that +40 will be ok?

Everything I have heard/seen suggests that Euros/Tsxs should not go lower than offset +42 to limit load increase on bearings, suspension joints, etc (see TSX web sites for examples)

+40 on 7.5 rim could also interfere with the fender lip when lowered according to the TSX web sites. :(

The other thing is when I was shopping around for my rims one tyre shop said there is a legal limit (ie impacting road worthy and insurance) as to how far you can vary from the stock offset of +55. I can't remember what the limit is or if this is total crap.

Be careful - my fingers are crossed that it will work out ok. :)

yfin,

WHao...I didn't know original are +55

there's not much difference between +42, +40...only 2mm difference hardly noticable.

If there's some issue with rubbing the fenders, I can always shave the rim off to about +45...it's easy to do, you can go higer offset, but cannot go lower.

yah there's a rule, you can't go wider than 2 inch than the original. wich is about 40mm

On my previous car, my stock wheel is +48, I had +37 wheels on, they went on fine and actually improve the handling of the car cos the track is wider.

Sorry if I have worried you Baboo - your +40 will definately fit the car - that is not going to be a problem.

I am not a tyre/rim expert - I just thought you should know what other so called experts say are safe "limits" to limit load on suspension and rubbing, etc.... eg this tyre shop even says no lower than +48 on 7.5 rim...

no problem, I'm no expert either :)

so the local 16" is also +55 offset? the Acura in the states has 17"

If worst comes to worse, I have to shave the rim to +48 spec.

Yes, double checked. Stock rims are 16x6.5, +55 offset. I would recommend you get some advice on this (eg tyre dealers) - if you can increase the offset easily I think it would be worth doing. Not from the perspective of rubbing (as you are unlikely to have any with the large guards) - but just to keep the suspension characteristics similar and to avoid wheel bearing, warranty etc problems down the track.

your car will sure look good...

yfin,

very nice rim

does a normal average tyre shop sell this kind of light weight rim? most tyre shop I went to sells chromies which is just bling bling to me, and most also sells brand new, not 2nd hand.

anyone have a suggestion of where to look in Victoria?

Yeah Tofu, saw that blue Euro with white JDM DC5R rims at QR, that was a slow ass car on the track blocking everyone.

I order the eibach springs through Centrax already, so once the car has come I'll fit all the stuff at once. Will drive around for a while before I do anything to it again.

I'm getting some new tyres too, How's the AVS V102 performs? I got quoted $350 per tyre. 215/45/R17 the falkens are just under $300.
I'm thinking of just getting the Falken FK451s, or RT215... don't have the budget to get the A048 anymore....

Can you get BS RE01 in OZ at all?

Tofu
26-08-2004, 02:10 PM
i don't know about the RE01..think it's only in Japan
the AVS V102 are an ok tyre...still looses grip under hard cornering tho
it's not as great as i hoped for...
paid $221 per tyre for 205/55R16

If you have a 7.5 inch rim - a 225 wide tyre is a better fit I am told. You can even go 235.
