Hi guys,

need some advice. I have already gotten some good feedback from Benson...nice chap.

and i need more opinions before i decide. (not saying Benson's advice was bad =p).

current engine setup in my car :
---------------------------
B18C2
421 X - Force Headers
CAI
---------------------------

I track my car, so the next step would be response and maybe slight power gain.

options i have considered:

1) B18CR entire head + edelbrock/skunk2 intake manifold.
2) Toda Vtec killer cams + the what nots
3) B20B bottom. Retain the B18C2 head.

definitely budget is taken into considerations...

thanks in advance

regards

For a track car have you considered ,lightweight flywheel ,heavy duty clutch and Brake upgrades?
They are all good options but why the vtec killers? if your car is also a daily driver as well there are probably better cam options.

The B20 Bottom end probably has the most potential if you plan to go further in the future. But out of the options you have stated i'd probably take the TypeR head and the aftermarket manifold.

what tuning options have you thought about?

You will need a good tune for your setup to be all it can be.

Not saying i'm an expert just offering a second opinion.

Good luck with it all.

Oh yeah the flywheel and all has been upgraded.
i got mine dyno tuned using an interceptor Apexi Neo.

the cheaper option would be to use a b16 head to match the b20 bottom.
Then sell the b18 as a complete engine, if that's the way you wanna go

i reckno the vtec killer are just overkill for daily driving

This sound like a great option to me:thumbsup:

street driven b20/vtec.

If hardcore track b18c.

you can do poor mans typeR
b16a head
typeR pistons, cams etc?

will u be using std b20 bottom..?

Im no expert.. but to use vtec killa cams i would think u need mega compression... even when its froma 2ltr..

and your valve relief (cutting the piston) would need to be fairly generous for the cams.

And i might sound like a noob,

but the vtec killa cams rumour to idle like over 1.5-2k...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are into track... aer u running std b18c2 gbox.

drop it and get a 4.7 or 4.9 FD,
upgrade manifold and TB,
Spec 2 valve train and tune...

Very decent gains and u wont even have to drop the motor

it would proabably be faster as the b20n setup u mentioned (pending u will retain 4.4fd) for almost the same money..

and if the bottom ever goes, drop the bottom and wack on b20 bottom end for more torque..

the b18c2 head supposidly flows better.....

and type r pistons wont fit.. its a different bore size

Yes but...

The b16a head gives slightly higher compression

P72 B18C head gives more compression than a PR3 B16a head as the combustion chambers are 1cc smaller on the P72 head.

All B series blocks have 81mm bore except the B20b which is 84mm, so ITR pistons will fit into his B18c2 but the compression gain isnt really that much and not worth all the effort IMHO. Better off to go with some aftermarket forged pistons which really arent much more expensive and the compression gain would be greater.

I can tell you first hand that B20b bottom end with B18c2 head is an awesome combination (Im currently running it myself) with I/H/E+IM+TB+ECU it can make decent amount of power with lots of torque. However, as fatboyz39 said Im not sure if a B20VTEC would be suited to constant high rpm track use. IMO you might as well stay with the B18c which is a strong reliable engine with pletty of potential. Forget about that VTEC killer cam bullshit especially if the car will be street driven at all, they really are not worth the money. Go for something like buddyclub spec3+ cams if you keep STD bottom end or go for BC spec4 cams if you install some high comp pistons. Grab a better header, decent intake manifold and bigger TB. Tuning as always is also very important.

I don't know if you've done it yet, but the best track mods that i have on my car (ITR) are my coilovers, upgraded brakes and brake lines, and semi slicks.

I can brake later, i can turn sharper, and i can put the power down earlier. So far my engine is untouched.

If i were you, I'd get a decent header, higher final drive (as already stated) and tuning device. Then I'd look at cams, valvetrain and high comp pistons, and maybe a new intake manifold.

Then keep whatever money is left, and spend it on repairs and maintenance after you've flogged your beast at a track day :p

I wouldn't get an unsleaved B20 bottom end for the track, and i wouldn't be swapping out the head either, you;ve got a decent engine to build on as it is.

Hey Joewalsh86...

i have brought my car to Oran Park and yes ..i know the meaning of maintenance =).

I'm getting a set of Zeals S6 coilovers to replace my Teins HA. As for tires =). Yeah going to get Semis for track or maybe semi/street tires. That my fren, is another conversation. Brakes, i will be getting slotted DBA and ultimate. So yeah...the thread was basically to find a budget way to help ppl get onto to the track once they are over their stock motors. Response is what i am going for. Thanks for the feedback.

I have been chatting with ZeForce, been interesting. =)
