Hi folks!
Helping out a friend here, as I'm not sure about the answer...question as follows...much appreciated!
i've had a spare engine stored outside under a tarp for a couple of months whilst overseas, but what do you know! Upon returning the tarp has been destroyed by the sun and the engine has been exposed to rain.
is my engine now ruined? would i need it pulled apart and cleaned of moisture/water for it to be "usable"...
or would flushing with oil after install suffice?
thanks!

Even if the tarp was not destroyed, the engine would still be exposed to the atmosphere and would still need a lot of work to get it running again. :)

this is a question i always wanted to know as well...
so basically engine needs to be taken apart?
more or less a re build?

thanks for your prompt replies!
as above would it need a rebuild?
just need to get an idea of whether it would be worth keeping/fixing. and perhaps how to check its condition...
thanks

engine will rust but engine is not ruined if u have covered the throttle body, covered the head where the headers are connected to the ports, also where the coolant comes in and out from, etc.
jst alot of dust and crap thats all. u wont need a rebuild lol.
we had a h22a intact in a ek with a piece of cardboard left on top and sat it in the rain for a period of time, it jst rusted but worked fine

next time cover all the openings of the engine and it will have a much better chance, few minutes and some plastic bags and tape,a tarp still lets moisture in.
anyway.like has been said, its a fifty fifty, claymore is on the money, try the oil first to give it a fighting chance

Bro I bought a b16a from a mate sitting there for a yr witn nothing covering it but a stupid papr box, it still runs man aslong as no water gets in the engine. engine it self is pretty secure and sealed. even if water gets into the engine just drain everything throw in new engine oil. runs fine. This is from exp guys.
Just flush it with new engine oils should run fine as its been done by a mate. if your not sure let it sit in a under cover area and let it dry up then flush it, should work thisway.

What the mechanic said. I had a near new focus engine sit outside of the car for about 6 month. Changed all the fluids when we put it back in and it fired the first go. Just make sure you seal it up properly. Same couldn't be said for the PS pump which needed replacing after moisture got into it :(, soopid ford runs an electric PS pump instead of a mechanical one.
Seal it up and cover it properly, make sure the tarp or whatever can't blow away and it should be all good
