as above :D

to make it reasonable, lets say it has to be a model between '88 and '94.

I'm asking a fairly practical question. I'm the owner of a '90 civic GL (dual-carby) and I'm thinking about getting something different, just for a change. But with the rising fuel prices, economy is of greatest importance in choosing a car at this stage. So what am I looking at?

TIA

I have a 45 liter tank (including reserve) in the '90 SiR. I filled up at Albury using Optimax on the weekend and did the run back to Sydney. Filled up today and hit 43 liters at the bowser. The trip meter (reset every time I tank up) was on 583kms. That equates to pretty damn good milage in my books - for a 14 year old original condition B16A with 276,000kms on it. BTW - I didn't need to top up the oil at all :)

Works out to be about 7.3 liters/100 kms I think.

Given that my B16A is the gen 1, I'd assume that the later ones would at least get comperable milage.

Around town putting the boot in when needed economy drops to about 450 kms per tank.

For economy - keep the GL, I used to get 530 kms to the tank from one on an interstate run.

yes the VEi VTEC-E D15Z1 was designed for economy and the most economical of its eara. when Vtec kicks in it makes the engine a normal 16v engine. when vtec is not engaged only one of the intake valves opens per cylinder, and the other opens slightly ( to prevent build up behind the valve ). these are the badboyz that use the LAF sensor, Honda boast A/F ratios of 27.1:1. very, very lean indeed.

That's not all that hard to believe
On the freeway, it won't use any boost, and a well tuned B16a off boost shouldn't be uneconomical.
In 5th gear, it wouldn't make much boost before 160km/hr anyway - if any
