View Full Version : Type R vs VTI-R brakes - DelSol upgrade
Vidospace

Hi,
I have a DelSol and am after better braking on a daily driver. I was considering VTI-R brakes but now know they are the same as mine.
Anyway so what is the difference between ITR or EK Civic TypeR brakes vs DelSol/Vti-r brakes in terms of rotor size caliper size etc?
Will Type R calipers fit (assuming I get blank rotors and redrill to suit 4x100)?
Do the mounts for the calipers need modding? HELP:confused:

Mods, can we get this stickied? It comes up again and again.
What are the rules for copying posts from other forums?

type R rotors are 282mm, i think vti-r rotors are 262mm.
you can use type R calipers on the 262mm but ull need spacers.
im not sure if they sell blank 282mm rotor discs, plus the drilling has to be done perfect otherwise will crack.
i reckon just get 262mm slotted rotors and good brake pads.

First off, your stock rotors…unless you are a professional racer, worrying about CONSISTENT lap times in the wet with a full stripped racecar, you do NOT want drilled or slotted rotors. Your best rotors are blank cast iron rotors, such as OEM ones, or Brembo blanks. F1 cars do not have holes in their rotors, nor do rally cars. If you must have bling, go with slotted, but do not use drilled.
Quoted from the article linked above, this is a very good piece of advice that alot of ppl dont realise

should try to get some good pads first with good hi temp fluid, then try with good stainless brake lines and finish off with your master cylinder getting rebored with a bigger ball with new seals for nice stiff brake pedal(the m cylinder costs around $200 if you take your old one to repco and they send it off). A mate told me about it and i am thinking about doing it myself.

if your current rotors are worn(i'll assume its 10+ years old) pickup some rda/dba ones, get some higher temp pads and flush the brake system with some new oem brake fluid. if you want the pedal to be firmer buy a cusco brake cylinder stopper
don't bother upgrading it if its just for the street and you're not looking for a substantial increase in power
oem brakes are good, just need to get the right pieces together to make it work better

i've done it and i'd recommend it. I really improves the stopping power by 100%.
No difference between CTR & ITR.
Still need to redrill the 282 rotors and shave 3mm from the inside of the caliper
