I've got an '89 ED, it's my daily, (except I just got a new job so I'll ride my bike to work) Anyway the body work is good but the engine has done 300,000 and it's blowing a lot of smoke. So I've been looking around insurance auctions for a donor vehicle.

I found a banged up '06 civic with a k20, only done 47,000 km.

I wasn't originally planing on using anything that new but it's got me thinking... so...

will it physically fit?
will I have dramas getting it registered? (I'll be changing over the brakes as well)

Yes it will fit,Yes its been done tonne's of times in the states and yes you can buy the mounts for it :)

Hell a K-swap has been done in a 3rd gen civic over here

just one questions......is your ed FI because if it isnt might i suggest doing so first and factor that into the budget :)

Nah the ED is dual carb.

Mabey I'm missing something but why would I bother converting my almost dead D15 to FI? I'm looking for a donor vehicle so I can take the wiring, the ecu, the fuel system, basically everything forwards of the fuel pump.

I figure if I'm going to go through that much hassle I want at least 160HP when I'm done so I'm looking at B and K engines.

got a spare 15k? I've got very low living expenses ;)

no no no no i meant for the k-swap

you will need to FI for k-swap (unless you want trouble/performance loss :thumbdwn:)

yes it will fit...
however like many have pointed out its a costly exercise.. so be prepared to spend in excess of 15g+.

Issues which u will come across... of fitting the sheer size of a K series engine into an ED will mean the sacrifice of A/C and Pwr streering!

Instead of spending $15 grand on a $2000 car, why dont u sell the ED and get a DC2R or something?

there's a little more to it than that. I'm a mountain biker/rock climber/diver and I like snow sports too (not that we get much snow any more :( ), I drive a lot of country and gravel roads and the occasional mountain climbs, so a light weight rally hatch suits my lifestyle a lot better.

Don't get me wrong I love the integras, a mate's got one but for me it's a bit too low, boot room isn't a good shape for bikes, and they look funny with roof racks.

how much cheaper would a B engine work out?

Yeah a B Series would be considerably cheaper since its a similar design to the D Series and the engine rotates the same way. But converting it from Carb to EFI is gonna cost you.

Even a D16A8 (96kw) would be ok, it'll be cheaper than a B Series and provide decent power.

Or alternatively, sell it and get an EG 92-95 Civic Si hatch with a D16A8 (or a Vti). Its already EFI so you could upgrade it to a B Series later with minimal hassle.
