so i had one of my tyres keep going flat on me, i kept refilling it but after a week i kept getting shitty and took it to a tyre place. the guy told me that id need a new tyre, i just got these tyres brand new (all 4) like 3 months ago =/ now im mega pissed one decided to die in the ass, is the guy full of shit that i need a new tyre? or do you guys really think its pretty ****ed

his reasoning here was, the inside of the wall of the tyre was too damaged to put back on

this is where the nail is, circled in red, the wall here is in good condition, as is the other side of the tyre

what do you guys think

Is that the sidewall? If it is and you have a hole there from the nail, then yes, you need to have it replaced.

Well just ask someone else to slap it back on, then when you wrap your car around a tree one night take some photos and post em up.

hey aaron thanks for the prompt reply, this is the picture from the top

the guy was more concerned with the inside of the sidewall and how the rim ate away the rubber, you still think replace it?

The spot in your picture of the worn rubber shows it's down to the cords. Hit a bump hard enough and you will blow the tyre from the inside out.

Why would you risk it ?

Ahh, I see. Then the nail is fixable, but the bead joint area is worn very badly. What is the tyre size and your rim width? I'd get a new tyre, but I'm asking the the size because you might have too wide a rim for the width of tyre that you are using.

Also, why is it worn on the inside???? It shouldn't be touching anything...

honestly i dont know the structure of a tyre, so cords and whatever youre talking about = ?? to me, but i suppose i can deduce that you're saying: get a new one

i got 215/35/18 on my car, i was told they'd fit just fine. you reckon they are too wide? my rims are 18x7.5"

the tyre kept getting flat, apparently thats the cause of that worn down area. i didnt notice it was flat until a week ago, i wouldnt know how long it was like that. with super low profiles you really cant feel the difference

215/35 R18 is fine on 18x7.5.

If you look at this pic from the Tyre Bible site, the rubber on the other side of the bead doesn't touch anything on the inside. So it's odd that yours is worn. I wonder if they put on dodgy tyres in the first place. Contact the tyre manufacturer and say that you were supplied defective tyres and you want to claim under warranty.

mine are sonar, you saying i should ring them saying mine is worn ?

edit: i had a look at the bead joint, it isnt worn, it must be the angle i took the photo because it is a kinda 75 degree angle shot. if u look birds eye view, nothing of the bead is worn?

From this photo it looks as though you drove on the flat tyre for too long, & the rim started shreading the inside lining of the tyre... not good & has
damaged the durability of the tyre

yeh he said the same thing, i was wondering if the damage was too minute to consider a new tyre but from what you guys are saying he isn't trying to rip me off so i might as well go pick up a new one tommorow for 140

It was just bad luck you got a puncture there,to close to the side wall to be repaired.because you drove it flat you have damaged the inner casing and now the tyre is fukkd, theres nothing you can do,Did you drive it flat?

i guess i did, when i saw it flat i immediatley inflated it, and every day kept putting it to 40psi buti guess before i noticed it; imust of been driving on it for awhile :(

yeah man
I reckon you ran over a nail way to close to the edge and in turn has been stuck there, going deeper with each rotation, thus hurting ur inner wall of your tyre.

Had you run over the nail/screw dead centre, you probably would have heard this clinging sound each rotation from 1 of ur corners, then you may of checked and seen the nail/screw.

I ran over a screw, was chrome so was easy to spot after driving on it and thinking wtf is that.
pulled over checked the tyre immediately knew wat it was after driving about 10m, I pulled the screw out straight away, it started leaking air as it does, drove it 400m to my nearest servo, $15 and 5minutes of work, they put (i think) a new peice of rubber into the hole, good as new,
just unlucky it happened on the side and u didnt notice it i spose.

40psi is a bit rich for 18s with that measurement isnt it?

Damn that's bad!!! Yeah, get a new one... And next time just give your tyres a little visual test to see if they are flat before driving off.

yeh u definitely need a new one.

repairing that would risk it to bubble up and eventually explode!

that piece of rubber you are talking about is called a road plug, which is designed for temporary use only.

i would recommend you taking it to a tyre shop and getting them to put whats called a combie in it which is very well reliable:thumbsup:
