hello all

my egb16 is having a few issues. at idle the car tends to rev between 1000 and 2000 revs as if its in a loop. it always happens when the air con is on, however it only occasionally happens when the air con is off. i have attached a video of what i mean. the engine check light also comes on.

does anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it?

My Civic did the same thing.

Clean the throttle body with carby cleaner. This fixed my engine.
If that doesnt work, remove the IACV filter and clean the black deposits from it.
If it still happens, try replacing the cooling fluid, then try replacing/testing the Thermostat.
Otherwise it could be a vaccumm leak. Cover the butterfly with your hand and listen for leaks.
Or perhaps the O2 sensor is playing up.

If the engine revs above 1500rpm when its cold, screw in the FITV valve.

Sounds like something to do with FITV, seeing as it's mainly occurring when the A/C is one (idle speed is increased) or IACV. A vacuum leak would cause constant 'hunting'.

As previously stated - clean out your throttle and IACV then go from there.

thanks guys for that

**update

I cleaned out the throttle body - even took the whole thing off and cleaned it properly - No change

I took off the IACV - it looks like it has been replaced recently and the insides were sparkling - No Change

I Changed the coolant - no Change

I placed my hand over the throttle body - car stalls almost immediately - leads me to believe there are no vacuum leaks. I couldnt hear anything sus

And finally today, i took off the FITV - same situation as with the IACV. It seems to have been replaced recently so there was nothing to clean

I have been periodically been checking the ecu for codes when the CEL comes on - it alternates between 41 (oxygen sensor heater) and 43 (fuel supply system)

After reading up, it seems as if its an O2 sensor problem, and thats next in line to be changed. Anyone know what the part number for a obd0 b16 02 sensor is? :p Or what the bosch equivalent is?

Updated symptoms - when the car is cold it revs around 1500rpm
As it warms up the revs slowly drop....and keep dropping - almost to the point where it stalls.....but it doesn't.

When it gets to around 300rpm, then it seems as if the ecu realises this and revs the car to ~1500rpm. The revs then sharply drop to 500rpm, then back up to 1500rpm. The loop starts.

After the car fully warms up and you give it a bit of stick, the revs settle at ~1000rpm at idle. However, if you stay at idle for longer than 3 minutes, the CEL comes on and the loop starts again, but it isnt as major. Only from 800-1200rpm. I usually just turn the car off and back on again and it goes away.

Anybody have any idea? :o .The whole intake side of things seems to be fine. Maybe its an ecu issue - Anyone got a spare obd0 ecu that i can test?

is it a stock ecu?

Any updates on this thread did you fix your problem mate? Just curious as i have similar issues and have tried numerous things already

Damn 3 year bump.

It needed a new IACV, but I just periodically pulled the throttle body off and cleaned it up, fixed the problem till it came back and I repeated the process.

just saying, bu it seems the cold weather is whats making the issues appear, which further leads me to believe it could be the iacv valve?
