G'day.

I've read over the CAI / Intake thread and got the jist of things.

But there's a few questions I'd love answered if anyone could.

1. Would a Short ram style intake benefit a carby car? I mean I know how the ghetto airbox is placed above the carbs, i did remove the stock panel filter, but from what I can see / hear / feel it doesn't seem to even make a sound difference really.

2. The piping I have is rather tiny, the end of the pod filter sits at the start of the charcol filter thingo (can supply pics if needed), and i presume the pod is just breathing very warm air from the engine. Does this render it pointless?

3. Is it possible to get that classique "honda intake" sound from a carb motor? a mate of mine has a GLI SOHC EK and it has the most awesome intake sound ever, just through a pod filter. I understand that Injection plays a big part in that sound, but just wondering if it possible to achieve with a carb.

Thanks a million guys

short ram style intake would not benefit a carby car.
the oval shaped filter around the carby is the best filter performance wise for a carby as they work best having air coming in from all angles (hence the filter circling the intake of the carby). it helps with the venturi effect that the carby has to create to mix the fuel with air....you would stuff this up by using a pod or something similar and just feeding air into it through a tube.

and yes,by placing a pod filter in an are where it is sucking in hot air it will make your engine lose performance...will however make the nice intake sound you are looking for,not to sure on a carb though what the sound would be

Ahh yes, i'm aware of the venturi effect. Thanks for your input buddy !

I fitted a pod around 20 minutes ago, and to be frank there's only a tiny tiny bit of difference.

Barely a intake sound at all, at around 4 + to say 6 (carb whine gets in the way afterwards) you get it oh so slightly, not even worth leaving the pod.

I guess i'll just remove it and sell the pod.

The "Venturi effect" is ALL INTERNAL to the carburetor. It's inside the throat of it so any changes to the air filter arrangement will have NO EFFECT on the Venturi of the carburetor unless you cut into the throat area INSIDE the carburetor. ;)

maybe it wont directly effect the actual venturi action,i no for a fact carbs like air coming from all angles around the throat though,if not then the v8 boys wouldnt still be running big round air filters and we could all have fully sick pods.whatever the case, changing the way the air enters the carb effects it,usually for the worse,it like on an efi car running an intake 30 cm long and running one 2 metres long, there will be a difference
