G'day guys.
I drive a 2001 dc2r, and the previous owner clocked up a few k's on it (currently 130,000)
Search yielded nothing, so just curious to what options there are?
I am aware of the K series swaps that are done, but i would prefer going down a differant track - keeping it B series.
A few come into mind, including the b20.
Is anyone running a b18/20 setup? Im sure there are a few out there - as i would like to keep the top-end power - and gain some torque while im at it.
Any helpful comments/info would be appreciated ;)
Thanks guys.

Are you wanting to change because you want to or you think 130k kms is a lot?
130k kms if it was/is taken care of, is nothing if thats what your worried about. It will do double that and prol more.

^Yeh i know Dean, but im also interested in the torque gain.
Im curious whether it would be a good purchase, weighing the plus's and minus's together. :)

Im running B20b bottom end with B18c VTiR head, good power and the torque is just amazing. Not sure if its really worth it though if there is nothing wrong with your B18cR atm.....

Sell your set-up off and put it towards a K20 or a k20/k24.
B20's are good but for the cost of them, i reckon a K20 would be a better choice.

If you’re not going to do a K-Series swap, you’re left with the choice between modifying your existing engine of moving to a B20 bottom end.
If you’re not going to modify the engine heavily, the B20 is good value for money.
If you are going to modify it heavily, the engine you have is an excellent base.
It really comes down to how much money you want to throw at it & what sort of result you’re after.
The largest torque gain will come from increasing capacity.
This can be done by increasing the capacity of your existing engine or purchasing an alternative bottom end & going from there.
If you’re chasing torque, CAI’s like Injen deliver the goods.
You’ll also need a good header & exhaust.
It may be that you would be satisfied with I/H/E + ECU & cams also…
This will increase the torque & top end to a degree also.
(See attached example)
Also bare in mind, with a complete B18CR conversion you can sell to offset the cost, a JDM K20A is still a logical choice for performance for dollar.

Lol thanks guys for advice.
I am looking to keep the car, and am doing suspension upgrades and only minor bolt-ons to the b18 (headers, intake, spark etc)
I have two friends running k20/24, and am looking for a differant approach.
Roughly how much would i be looking at for a b18c7 top with a b20 bottom?

Bolt-on turbo :) will give you the extra power and torque you need.
Turned my gutless wonder into a v8 chomper

You could probably do it for around $1500 (not including labour)

Not interested in going down the turbo route :)
Id imagine the best bet is to buy the b18c7/20 package (or have it made) and sell my b18 as a whole, rather than keeping my top and and just selling off the bottom end of the b18?

^Thanks for your help bilz!
I havn't received a price estimate (for either the complete b18c7/20 motor or just the b20 bottom) yet but when i do i'd like to weigh up the plus's and minus's.
New tranny needed i'd assume?
Is anybody else running the ITR top end with the B20 bottom?
go hard mang!
If not going B20 what TODA AU said is the way to go.
I/H/E + ECU + cams.
Maybe todaspecB cams would satisfy urges :P

id suggest getting a new transmission though. 6speed to match the k20/24 frank :)

To make a decent b20 end, you'll need to spend like 4k. THen on top of that you need the good bolt-on mods with the ECU+tune. You'll be looking at 2k for these parts. Thats already a good 6k give or take.
Or you can build a cheap B20 bottom end for 1.5k but not make good power.
Thats why i said lean towards a K20a. If you cant get JDM then AUSDM is ok i guess. You'll spent all up roughly 13-14k for the complete swap. Sell off your package for around 5k and add an extra 9k on top and your set. For an extra 3k on top of a B20, you get yourself a K20 and a 12sec package.

If you search for our V3 b20 bottom end setup its very simple. A good reliable b20 bottom end will set you back easy 4k.
V3 b20 bottom end/ stock ITR head / good headers/ good intake/ good exhaust and ecu and tune, will net around 130-140kw atw.
Or could build b18c motor up. We had great success with just usual bolt-ons I/H/E ECU and tune on all our b18c7 motors. JDM b18c made 130kw atw/ Aussie b18c7 127kw atw and another b18c7 121kw atw. All these motors had the SAME mods on all 3 motors and made great power. Our ET time backs it up, all those motors are doing mid 13's in dc2r shell and EG shell.
So IMO, save up for good quality I/H/E ECU and tune then choose what to do next after that.
