The transmission is real fun and we discovered a hidden bonus: an eighth ratio in the seven-speed gearbox. It's a highway overdrive that is activated only when the computers recognise a high-speed cruise, and even Honda Australia was surprised to know the car had it.

thisis from the hearld sun review on the ne guys...
enjoy! :D

is the 8th speed activated automatically? or you can press it after 7??

i notice that the engine rev on the 7th ratio is higher than auto mode so i usually switch manual mode off on highway.

Hey I tested this mystery 8th ratio. And guess what? Its true. Try this, drive in CVT 7 mode (manual) and cruise at highway speed with light throttle (just maintaining speed) and put it in 7th "gear" drive like that for about 1 minuted and suddenly the revs will drop. The ECU recognises you're just cruising and goes to a tall ratio to save fuel. Just jab the throttle and it goes back into the normal 7th speed.

Yeah... mine kicks in less than half a minute if cruising on the freeway at constant speed 100km/h.

It is easier to achieve this in CVT mode.. you will not notice it, but when you look at the rev sitting just above 2000rpm, you know it is in the 8th.

So cool though, a 1.5L car doing just 2000rpm at 100kph and 1800rpm at 80. My lude with 30kW and 500cc more is pulling 3000rpm at 100 at top gear.

Kinda wish I had a 6th gear in the manual :D Doing 3k RPM @ 100km/h is no fun...

Kinda wonder what's the need for the 8th gear, even though it's handy to have :)

interesting is still the fact that the manual seems to chew less fuel

quizery, ur one is CVT auto? i thought ur one is manual..

Nope Type S is 1.8 L DOHC VTEC engine (arround 127-130KW)

They body IS different as VTI-s but the engine is different .... VTI-S (SOHC 1.5 VTEC (89kw)) ........ and TYPE S is 1.8L DOHC VTECH (127-130KW)

I USING 98 RON Petrol and sumtimes I use 102 RON PETROL (102 petrol = 98 RON + Nitrous Liquid Formula it give 4 octane more, and make the RON 98 into 102 RON)

TYPE S front and rear brake is DISC BRAKE , as current Jazz (disc and drum)

Inside is recaro sport seat, Momo Steering wheels and Momo 17"

ASK your honda dealer... is cost around $37k + dealer
