Hey guys,
Ive been out of the Honda scene for a number of years and missing vtec like crazy!
Im considering buying a s/h S2000 (99 - 01 model with as low kms as i can afford) and plan to do the occassional track day. Who else tracks there car and what problems have you had with them when you do so?
Cheers

No probs, go through breaks and tyres normally like any other car. Again like any other car just gotta watch temp. and over rev. A well maintained example should have hours and hours of prob free track days. All dependent on the driver and car history really.

Thanks "WhtieAP1" ... same as most cars i guess. Have you even had it get close to cooking the oil or water?
You have a lot of mods to your car, nice. Any dyno results or better yet track times around Vic? And whats with the Kia 4.77 Final Drive? What revs does that give you in 6th at 100km/hr?

Nah, cooling mods were first on the list so that was taken care off. Ive got alot more on the car than that list shows including internal work. Im hoping for dyno results in a few weeks, its at my mechanics for a few things atm.
The 4.77 is awsome i love it. At 100km in 6th its around 4K rpm, i think im just used to it now so no issue. So far on the track, before mods and still on street tyres, my times were nothing worth posting. Most standard S2000's at winton are anywhere between mid-high 1:40's
With the prices the way they are these days im sure u'll grab ureself a decent s2000.

Looking forward to the dyno result! What internal work was done and where?
4000rpm at 100km/h! Thats, ummmm rather high! But im sure itaccelerates like mad and feels as it the gears are super close! Is 'Kia' a brand (im thinking crappy Korean shite box)?
Mid 1:40s would be alright for an S2000, im hoping for low 1:40 in my Evo 6 on street tyres and near std (current 1:45 with loads and loads of understeer but a front lsd should fix that!)
Do you have additional pics of your car for general viewing?

Darton sleeves, Toda 87.5mm pistons good for about 12.3:1, F22C retainers, Toda valves and valve springs. Chasers Motorworks is doing the work.

A branch of Mazda make the s2000 diff, they also make a few Kia diffs too (Yes the crappy korean shite box maker) The ring and pinion form the front diff of a Sportage is interchangable with the 4.10 from the s2000. J's racing actually sell the exact same Kia ring and pinion, charge an extra $1000 and call it J's racing 4.77 final drive.

The power and torque of an evo 6 together will AWD + LSD to get you out of those corners, i dont see why not.

No i actually dont. When the car comes back i should post an engine build thread. The car looks pretty simple from the outside. Apart from a black OEM replica front lip and a low stance from the tiens its just another white s2000.

been hearing some horror stories of s2000 simply blowing their motors on the track mainly due to over rev (usually down shifting)
that being said i tracked my previuos s2000 3 times and it was fine. just dont over rev the thing and it should be fine.

Damn, sounds like a serious engine you are having built! Keeping the standard cams? Ive heard good things about Chasers and i was actually speaking to them last week about the old Evo ... they had some good info.
And thanks for the diff info - bloody good knowing that ou can change the final drive for not a whole lot of money (compared to J's Racing etc)!
Looking forward to the engine build thread and some pics!

Thats a very good time! Years ago when i used to go to PI in the EG i just bet that and it was modified for track and had Toyo semis! Good job :)
Have you ever had problems with oil blow by? Ie does your comsume a bit of oil? I was speaking to a dealer and they said that the F20 goes through plenty of oil and didnt seem to think much it. I disagree! I mean old Ferrari's burn oil, not new engines from a Japan! The Toyota (or Yamaha) unit in the old mans Lotus burns no oil and it superchargered and revs to 8500!

i had bit of smoke coming out of Honda Corner (hard right hairpin sorta). But nowhere else on the track. Oil consumption was relatively low. My B18C EG consumed more oil and that had very few problems also.

Sounds like no really problem then, just need to check oil and top up when required every couple a thousand kms or after a track day - like many manufacturers of high perfomance cars/engines recommend.
How does the S2000 feel compared the B18 EG on PI?

two very different cars. The EG was track prepped, stripped, suspension mods, and R tyres. By comparison, the S2K felt slow with low levels of grip. Theres about an 8 secs per lap difference between the two
but two very different cars

True - the EG is seriously quick doing mid 1:50's! The good thing about those things is that you can drive them at 10 10ths where as rwd requires being gentle with your imputs; throttle, steering and braking. Its more challenging and fun...

My thoughts exactly. The EG was being pushed to the absolute limit, while the S2K im a bit more hesitant to push it too hard as i know what happens when i do.

They are very reliable cars as long as you don't do the obvious things such as over-revving it...I've taken mine to winton a few times and calder park a couple of times for fun...
All you need to do is upgrade your pads (ferodo ds2500 etc.), upgrade brake fluid (dot 5.1 etc.) and you'll be fine...
I am sitting on 1.44 with a stock car + a048s at winton...but that last time was on a 35 degree day, I'm going again on March 10, it should be a lot cooler and I'm aiming for 1:42-43!
Self-timed but at Calder I am doing 1:11 easily.
what damages would be made if u keep spinning off the track? lol

So far run 1:37s with exposed steel belts (whoos - LOCK UP) and 30kw down on power with street brake pads. 1:35s are the target.
I just picked up a nice clean s2000, so far picked up a buddy club spec IV cat-back and going to fit some Falken Azenis RT615s and ordering Bilstein PSS9s, after which I'll test it at winton :D

nothing yet man. keeping my options open tho. i actually really miss the S2000 tho. it just seems that not alot of cars stack up to the performance and handling of the S2000.

well one out of how many s2k owners out there. S2k are great out of factory, slap on some R compund tyres and piloted half decent driver then i don't see why they can't post average times. And you have proved this.
Im trying to egg some s2k owners out there to hit the track more often. Need some s2k to battle :p

im open to the new evo x when its released here. only problem is no 6-speed manual! only the 6-speed sst (heard its great tho).
350z is way too heavy. too much work needed to be done to make it a "fun to drive" car.
...maybe i'll just get another s2000. best track car i've ever owned.
