Ive got a 99' model vtir prelude. It's trip-tronic. im looking at putting extractors but not changing the exhaust as it'l sound shit becoz of the auto. is it worth the money for just extractors??

nope not worth it. no point having extractors and no exhaust.

see, the whole point of having aftermarket extractors is to let the car breathe better BUT if you only change the extractor and leave the stock catback system alone... then it'll just be a waste because the catback system is gonna be the restriction point.
best bet is to do the whole basic I/H/E (Intake/Header/Exhaust) setup if you want your car to perform better. if you want more gains, you'll soon need to have a tune up.

first question: extractors with stock catback = no benefit
second question: extractors with aftermarket catback = benefit. but you said you wanted to leave it stock. in which case refer to q 1 :P ...

no point changing ur extractors if ur not gonna do the rest of the exhaust mate.

get the whole she bang if ur gonna do it with a quiet muffler. headers/catback

twin loops seem liek the way to go for quietness.

i've seen a auto/triptronic lude with an exhaust..

and oh man. he BT33SN them chicks wif his exhaust.

LOL

i used to drive an auto with a catback exhaust..i understand how annoying it can be..and also yu tend to lose a little of your low end torque so i guess the best bet is to leave it totally stock..the gains of having a full exhaust when driving an auto gearbox is not exactly worth the money.. ie money spent not equating to power gains.

I have a 2.5 inch manderal bent cat back system if youre interested, i'm after $150.00 for it. It will bolt up to your standard cat and muffler.

yes, in theory. but you WILL gain power with header, and stock exhaust, it has been done. ( xforce header gained 7kw with stock cat back)

think about it, a turbo car with dump pipe and hi flow cat will gain power even if its running into a stock exhaust.

my suggestion, if u want a bit more power, but don't want to increase noise too much , get aftermarket header.

btw, tip tronics suck for gaining power. even with i/h/e tune, u will be running a slow quarter. sorry but its true.

yupz totally agree...tip tronic with full exhaust (extractors and catback) will jus make yu lose all ur low end torque and it jus makes it worse with a tip..
best is to leave it stock if yu;re still after an auto gear box

It's been proven with a good tune that the H22 will respond positivly to just a header with a stock exhaust. There are a number of people in Aust running like that. Of course it would be better if there was a free-er flowing system afterwards, but there will be a noticable difference.

Also, it's no hard to quiet down the the H22 either, just a good muffler will do the job, with an extra resonator if you really feel the need.
