Hey guys. Would my ep3 type r b safe to run Vpower Racing ?? Its 100octane but includes 5% ethanol and i heard that its not good for some engines and can eat away at fuel lines etc is that tru ??

Steve, here is some general info : http://www.honda.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/internet/Honda.com.au/Home/Owners/Ethanol/

Now using that as reference, because our car uses the K20A engine series which theoretically falls under the 'Integra 2002 onwards' range, I would think it may be 'OK' to use VPower Racing. I've yet to confirm this with specialist Honda mechanics but taking the fuel has 100 octane (which is what our engines are designed for) with a bit of ethanol, it should not be a big deal...

However, if you are unsure, just stick to BP Ultimate, VPower or Vortex 98. That order. :)

awww i see i see. Yeah i always usually use BP Ultimate. Last tank fill up i used Vpower Racing and found my car a bit more responsive and lil bit of power gain and i also got 476km b4 the fuel light came on. But yeah i heard about the ethanol and im just got worried haha
Anyways ways thanks NightRyder :)

Two things,

1) Where are you getting V Power Racing.? Cant find anything on the northside.?

2) If you are so worried about the ethanol, just mix half/half with normal V Power. 5% ethanol is not that bad considering std unleaded uses 10%. Im pretty sure overseas, they use a higher mix/blend of ethanol.

The EP seems to be very good on the petrol, alot better than I thought.

you can get v power from the kings cross shell not in the north but closer to your work

ethanol is a solvent. it will cause premature degradation of your fuel lines and injectors.

i would not use it in my car. 98 octane is fine, and if you are really desperate to get >98 octane, just use octane booster

V-Power Racing only uses 5% ethanol in its fuel. It takes upwards of 20% ethanol in your fuel to start causing engine damage. So, in my opinion it should be fine to use it.

On a side note, there is really no point using V-Power Racing in your car unless it's been tuned for it. All the ethanol does is boost the octane rating which increases its resistance to knocking (pinging). You won't find a performance benefit from it as it doesn't increase the fuels carbon bonds(more carbon bonds = higher activation energy = more power). So save yourself the extra coin and just use ordinary V-Power.

I've been using Shell VPower 98 ever since and have been averaging 520kms per tank.

I've used Vortex 98 for the first time and managed to get 550kms.

Never highway driving.

I'll try BP ultimate tonight and see how it goes.

in fact, for a given quantity, ethanol will produce less power than petrol. mobil sells e10 at a discount of 2c per litre on the normal 92 octane price, and overall it has been shown to actually provide worse economy. the discount would need to be substantially greater for the overall effect to be positive

you'll note that i didnt specifically say 'engine damage', i said damage to fuel delivery system. whether its 5%, 10%, or 20+%, the reality is that it still comes into contact with rubber hoses and injectors, and over time will still wear these at an increased rate when compared to regular non-ethanol blend fuels

I have tried most 98 fuel on my ep3r and here is my result

Mobil 8000 450kms

Caltex 98 512kms

BP yet to try

V power 500kms

Since I only got my car for a few weeks and I can say they all perform pretty

much the same, but mobil just burn ( not preform ) alot faster!! lol

my car never can go more than 450kms per tank. The fuel light would mostly on around 400kms. What a shame !

BTW. Don't try the V-POWER RACING. It made my car even produce less power.

The fuel economy of the EP3 is 'craptacular' at best. I've seen quite a few EP3 reporting that they fuel usage hovers around the 400-450 mark. Could it be that the EP3 is just not that fuel economic overall?

I, myself have only managed to get around 400kms in start/stop, commuting to work type of traffic. This also involves lots of small trips between work and my gf's house. The instant I see the amber fuel light appear, I top up. Refilling normally puts about 40L back into my tank at this point. So I believe the fuel light comes on when there's 10L of fuel left? Can someone confirm this?

If I was driving more frequently on the highway, I'm sure I could get more out of my tank.
