Hi there,

I recently got an iPod and I'm sick of the terrible quality I'm getting through an FM Transmitter in the Civic so I'm looking at other options.

I found the Dension Icelink and a shop in Sydney who will do the install, but they want $400 for it (including install). I found a unit only (not Dension, unsure of the brand on that one - http://www.ptp.net.au/accessories_ipod.html) for $250 which is still pretty steep but it's something I'll use every day so it's worth spending the money on.

I suppose I just need opinions on what would be the best adapter. How difficult are they to install? (I hate messing with pulling out dashboads etc)

Do Honda offer an "official" apapter through dealers?

Thanks, perfect! (installation scares me, I may have to pay a professional if my hands are too big to try that suggestion from the last post ;)

You can install ipod icelink to your 8th civic for less than 5 min with out opening up the whole pannel.

read my instruction on page 2 of Jace's icelink thread.

Yeah, I saw that, I'll give it a go but as I said, I suspect my hands are probably too big.

I got mine from the same place as jace, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DENSION-ICE-LINK-PLUS-Sys-for-APPLE-IPOD-I20-HONDA-R3_W0QQitemZ140207877050QQihZ004QQcategoryZ58350QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Total cost inc shipping was like $70 AUD, no custom issue, delivered within a week, great seller :) Thanks Jace.

By the way, scratch2k, you can try to open the tray top cover with a flat screw driver, it takes less than 20 sec, then you can try if you can put 2 fingers in and touch the socket on the top right corner of the tray, if you can, then you should be ok, just need some luck and time to penetrate it in :)

You're talking about the tray directly blow the air con controls and next to the 12v outlet?

I had a look at it last night and saw there was a cover there but was afraid to stick a screw driver in to it, I'll try it tonight but even if I get that off it seems like it's an aweful long way away from the where the back of the HU would be. I can only try and fail, I'll see how I go. At $70 for the adapter, even if I have to call in a professional it's going to end up less than the $400 some of those other installers want.

the adaptor is actually only half a finger length from the hole :)

Yes, that's the cover, there are two slots for you to open it with a screw driver, so no plastic damage at all, anyway, no one would ever put their head down and look at it hehe.

Awesome, last question: I have an iPod Classic, I read and see that the adapter which JaCe got has a dock of some sort, it looks way to small for a Classic to sit in and I'd prefr a longer cable over a dock anyway since I can then plug the iPod in and have it sitting on the seat next to me...is there a version available with a cable rather than a dock?

No worries. I figured he was a good seller and offered me excellent communication, and was willing to help me figure things out- it was because of this I felt he warranted a bit of a kudos on the OzHonda forums.

Correct. The iPod classic will fit but it's too thin so I worry that it might break the dock port.

I replaced my cradle with just a cable which cost about $30 but I bought the last one off a NZ distributor. They stopped selling these old models now I think and replaced them with more feature-rich Dension kits.
