Hey guys just new here,

i have a 1990 ED civic hatch. (D15B4, manual)

i have just found out that the engine is dead. (when i say dead gonna cost heaps to fix it)

so instead of getting it fixed i want to upgrade to EFI.

i am looking at putting in either a D15B7 or a D16A8??

will these fit into the ED's engine bay?

i have found a D16a for $250 from Victoria with free shipping (am based in sydney)

Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. i dont have the funds at the moment to put a B16a or any vtec in.

thanks for your help

Best thing to do would be to buy a CRX or EF SI half cut.

You get the D16a8 engine, loom, mounts etc.

The only real problem is the fuel tank and lines, again these can be found on the
above mentioned cars... or you can custom fab a swirl pot & lines etc.

well i'm at uni and aren't that technical with changing things like this. i have changed a gearbox out of a n13 pulsar but thats the only major thing. i probably could do this over a weekend but not the wiring, ecu, lines or tank etc.

i would give it all to a mechanic to do for me as i dont really have the time or the expertise to do it all myself.

Do you think i am out of my depth looking to change to EFI and should just straight swap for another D15B4?

keep in mind my budget is around $1000, $1500 TOPS.

thanks for all your feedback

I'm not sure what location your in but post what your after and the money your willing to spend etc in the "Wanted to buy" section. You may find what your after from Traders or others on this site.

PS: just read your in sydney.

Also may add that some members on here may do the work required (for a price) but pm some people/traders and see what you can get hooked up with ;)

D16A8 for $250, thats really cheap for a good motor. Snap it up, they sell for $1000+ at wreckers and $600-$1000 private.

pm benson or fatboyz

i remember they were selling a half cut and offered to do the carby to efi conversion. they know whats needed and im sure they'd have a good idea on costs invloved.

im not much of a fan of vtec motors, but in this case, if you're going to do a motor swap as well as a carby to efi conversion, you may as well go for a b16a instead of a d16a. might cost you a bit more, but theres not much point in going from a d15b4 that makes 72kw at the motor to a d16a8 that makes 24kw more, despite all the effort. i'd personally prefer to just tune the d series motor thats already in the car, but thats not really an option for you at the moment.

yeah i thought about rebuilding the same engine, but want something with a bit more go and efi.

fatboyz pm'd me and said he has a D16y1 for me which he can put into it.
am getting him to quote something up for me and will post back on here once more info is obtained.

**NOTE - will post back here if i dont want the D16Y1 but until then i have dibs!!**

Ok after getting a quote i have decided just to replace the current D15B4.

Anyone help here on a price for a motor and labour?

i had to get an emergency replacement for my ed6, i found a motor at honbits...cost me heaps for the motor...$600

but my friend put the motor in for me, i just gave him a box of longnecks

D series are plentyful particularly with the CRX gen2 ED (AUSDM) owners....as they are getting on a bit regarding K's on the clock and just wanting to upgrade to the B series.

So if ur ever in need of any D16a8 be sure to let me know... something can be outsourced for ya! ;)

hey thanks snoop_gee but after getting a few quotes i cant afford the carby to efi conversion at the moment so am just going to straight swap for a d15b4.
if you could help me out with that, would be much appreciated!!

your best bet would be to find a mechanic friend and head to a u-pull-it and yank it out yourself. that way you can grab a motor for 100-ish. otherwise, expect fairly high prices.

yeah but i dont really trust the condition of those motors at places like pick and "payless".
i want to know that it is going to last for a few years to come.
