im liking the castrol edge oils at the moment.
its a synthetic, basically, oil is the lifeblood of your engine, the one you choose, and the way you drive your car obviously, are 2 big factors on when the engine will ultimately die,so i prefer to pay the little bit extra every oil change to get quality synthetic oil as opposed to cheaper and most of the time less protective mineral oils.
viscosity that you choose (the 15W40 or 10W30 or 20W50 etc etc) depends on how old your engine is and how it has been treated.the lower the numbers in the grade the thinner the oil basically (so 20W40 is thicker than 10w30.in an ideal world we would all run around 0W30 but as engines wear they need thicker oil.my b16 has around 150000kms on it
used the 5W30 in my engine and it burnt a fair bit of oil and sounded slightly rattly around 8000rpm.
so now i have 10W60 in there,a bit thicker, its not burning oil anymore and no evil sounds from the engine

Spec is 10w-30 for a new D-series engine. I'd use 0w-40, 5w-40 or 10w-40. If your engine is in good nick and doesn't burn oil/blow smoke/feel rough as guts, then I'd add 0w-30, 5w-30 and 10w-30 to the list as well.

Use the same oil rating as you have always used.

If the engine is blowing a bit of smoke, perhaps try a thicker oil.

Ultimately Honda FEO would be ideal.

daily driven car, 10w-40. Or if in doubt, can't go pass FEO 10w-30w.

10W40/30 FULLY SYNTHETIC - but change it at no more than 5,000kms (not 10,000).

castrol edge 0W-40 that i am using, i got the b18c JDM, that guy suggest that oil, and it is the most expensive oil u can get

the guy from the store said that 0W is better than 5 or 10W, but i look at the advertisement, that guy with 2500hp Ute use 10W or something. so i was thinking if i used the right oil....

the 0W 40 castrol edge costs me $75 :(

Between 0w-, 5w- and 10w-, they don't matter unless you live in the snowfields. The 2nd number is more important.

There are more expensive oils out there than $75, try some of the motul, redline, royla purple to name a few, there are even more expensive again.
just depends on what you want. But to the question

start with OEM and if you want better then go for it.
If it starts to burn then go up slowly until you find the right mix i.e goto 40w then to 50w if you have to

its natural for oils to burn over time yea? say after an oil change i'd fill it to just under the maximum dot. 5,000 - 6,000 km later, the dot has lowered to mid-way between the max and miniumum dot. i always take measurements on a flat surface in my garage in the morning, after the car has rested over-night.

Is that the original engine in you EH? 5000km to mid dot is pretty good for an old engine. To help, you can replace your PCV valve with a new one.

Helps alot with oil consumption and older engines....most people/mechanics dont bother replacing this the life of an engine. Honda says to do it every 40k so do it ! As an example i replaced the PCV on my honda , first time in 102,000ks. Straight away at the next oil change the level did not drop one mm (about) compared to around 5mm @ 5,000k

wow, definately look into it soon.

yea, its the original engine. has 140,000km on it. since its been a canberra car its whole life it doesnt get as much torture as sydney :p
