View Full Version : Is $2.4k insurance too much to be paying for a DC4?

DC4Integra98

^ with AAMI full comprehensive insurance, price inclusive of the "family discount" and me doing the "advanced driving course". Originally meant to be $2.6k a year. 20yo male.

I feel the discounts haven't really done me any justice here. A friend of mine owns a n/a supra and pays $2k for his comprehensive insurance and everywhere I quote seems to be in the $2k region.

Any help with getting cheaper insurance? And am really paying too much or is this reasonable?

Cheers

$2.6k per year , you will pay the worth of the car in about 3 years. Is it worth it ? NO.

accident history?
traffic infringements?
Where you live?
Is it garaged?
Immibiliser (dont know if this is still asked for at AAMI)

just because you have a family discount doesnt mean your going to get a cheap price...

I got quoted about 2500 for full comprehensive insurance under my name when i first bought my dc4,
I was 19 at the time.

-No traffic infringements
-Live in melbourne in a place called aspendale - fairly quiet neighbourhood not -known for being notorious
-garaged
-new alarm fitted including 3 point immobilser

And to top it off...
I just got off the phone to GIO who quoted me $4200.22 !!! two years and i can buy another car.

I think the main factor is my age. I am going to be 20 years old this year. As in the current insurance under my father's name it is costing around $500 for full comp, but as the car will be used for uni I believe it will be hard to make a claim if an accident were to happen on campus...

consider only fire n theft insurance. IE if your car is stolen you will get $5k max back.
Otherwise hope an accident isnt your fault.

Or , bend over and pay this ludicrous amount.

Have you tried Justcars insurance yet ?

I think I will have to go with third party fire and theft only. Paying so much is just not worth it for a car valued at the $8-10k mark.

Just Car insurance quoted me
$2,020.00

just car is a raught too!!!

i got my insurance reminded the other day and my insurance coverd dropped from $16k to $14600k in only a year!!

i was like wtf how can it drop so much if i agreed to be insured for $16k?!

another thing last year it cost me $2510 to insure and now it costs me $1963

so ya i called them up today and she said she'll 're examine' my cover and then she told me i can still have it insured for $16k and will still cost $1963

like how can they do that? its like i had to get on their case to make sure i'm covered my full amount >_<"

also that new place www.bingle.com.au dont bother theyr just as expensive

2K isnt too bad for an integra SPORTS coupe.

silly system at justcar wanted to charge $400 vehicle premium for a stock as rock, slow as shite EK1 civic sedan. - my father as the driver.

Its all about what car you drive.

Having said that, its all about THEIR perception. a quote for insurance for a Audi A4 1.8TURBO was the same as my accord 2.3 NA. They said its because the audi isn't generally regarded as a 'hoon' car.

How much are you paying?

I thought a DC4 aka gsi would be significantly cheaper than its vti-r/type-r equivalents

thats crazy!

i'm only paying $1200 a year with NRMA for my DC4 with 1500 of listed mods.

i am 21, 2 traffic infringements and monthly works out to be around $120.

thats abit dodge about AAMI, because i tried for a better deal through them, and they wouldn't insure me because i have too many modifcations :thumbdwn:

i think the popularioty of Honda's may be a factor now too, i'd need to have a chat with our underwriting people to understand... a Honda car culture is growing... with that, thefts accidents and claims will increase... i dare say the governments P plate restrictions would be driving this too...

But yeh at the end of the day its a "sports" car and you are young dude... You didnt clarify your accidents history...

Didnt GIO put you through to Custom Car Insurance?

mate you know if the insurance is under your dads name, you can still claim that you had an accident while driving it, however the excess you pay, for being an unlisted driver under 25yrs is around $1500, but i think thats probably a cheaper option. Well, the bottom line is that insurance still covers you even if its in your dads name, just the excess is higher. atleast nrma operates like that ;)

Currently under dads name and me as part-time driver. HOWEVER, they will not insure me if I drive the car to work or uni as such it should be under my name. And if I put my name included with my dads as main drivers, they bill from the youngest driver aka me.

Under parents name is undoubtedly cheaper. Currently costing around $500
Excess is about 500 + 900 for being under 25.

I will go to an AAMI office tomorrow with my father and find out the best price. So far the prices I have gotten are over the phone/internet.

perhaps aami works like that, however nrma will insure it still, give em a call and find out, only thing is if an under 25 driver who isnt listed crashes it then they pay an excess of 1.5k, if the under 25 driver was listed they only pay like 400 bucks in excess or something like that.
