Hi guys,

I currently own a 2007 Civic and I'd like to upgrade the tyres and wheels.
As stock, the Civic's tyre specs are: 195/65/15

I'm looking to upgrade to 17". But what is the specific tyre spec that I should be looking for? A friend was suggesting 215/45/17.

Are there any benefits to getting tyres that are wider or have a different profile?

Thanks very much for all your help in advance

On my FD, I had 225/45/17 tyres... don't think there is going to be much diff between 215 and 225. Only problem with 225 is you may get some rubbing (Mine rubbed when i went through dips)

i have 215/45 and have no issues whatsoever..

Thanks for sharing guys, you're a big help! :)

Also, would you happen to know what the offset for the rims to match tyres of this size is?

I've got my eyes set on a particular set of buddy club wheels and they come in the following sizes. Which would fit 215/45/17 tyres?

Size / Offset / Bolt Pattern
17X7.5 / 42 / 4x100 or 4x114.3
17X7.5 / 38 / 5x114.3
17X7.5 / 48 / 5x100

Once again, thank you all for your help.

You need 17 x 7.5 / 42-45 / 5 x 114.3.....offset need to be +42 to +45

After taking time to look around, I've opted to get the Buddy Club P1 Racing 2 Plus wheels in 17X7.5 / 38 / 5x114.3.

The offset doesn't appear to be within the correct range tho (which according to santa3563 is between +42 and +45). I'm told that this can be corrected for during fitting? At least that's what the guys at the shop told me. Can anyone confirm this? Is there any disadvantage from doing this?

Btw, thanks very much for everyone for their helpful input.

FD need 5 x 114.3. (previous civic was 4 studs, but due to bigger KW, means need more safety on wheels).
215 --> usually for rims with width 7.5
225 --> 8
235 --> 8.5
but sometimes (rarely), 7.5 can fit with 225

i use 18 x 8 for my FD. perfect. no drama at all.
max FD can fit 8.5 front and 9 at rear.
just drop by to wheel/tyres shop, dont worry about the tyres, they will look after you, just choose the rims !:p

umm.... does anyone know what size the lug nuts have to be to fit my 2007 Honda Civic? I'm getting the Buddy Club P1 Racing SF wheels.

Also, I plan to get the McGard's lug nuts since they have a safety lock.

But apparently they come in a lotta different sizes x.X how do u tell which will fit? http://www.mcgard.com/pdf/nutreferencechart.pdf

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

if you check the overall diameter of a 195/65x15 tyre with a 215/45x17 you will find the overall diameter is 1.2 inches smaller. However the 225/45x17 has exactly the same overall diameter.

^er.. yes but offset is what makes the difference

of course you need to get the correct offset, but you still need to match the overall diameter as close as possible

they (tyres shop) will give u :
17" --> 45 tyre profile
18 --> 40
19 --> 35

and also don't think there's any xxx/65/17 tyres, always xxx/45/17, at least xxx/50/17. but for 4WD it's available xx/65/17.

Just in case anyone wanted to know, an ebay seller was telling me that the McGard's lug nuts i need would be of size "12mm x 1.5". As a precaution, I emailed the manufacturer about it also, just waiting on their reply. Gonna get black chrome ones to match my gun metal wheels ;D

Would hate to have my wheels stolen after investing so much in it! Especially since I have my doubts if my insurance company would cover it lol.

it's fit (5x114.5), and they have stack of offset to choose to suit ur FD.
$300 for one tyre ? stock size (15") Dunlop sp3000 ??? i think it's only about $150+ for one.
tempe sell 18" tyre @ $150 (Kumho/Nankang).
void warranty ? yes, it has been confirm by my Honda dealer.
but only about ur suspension, tie rod, etc (around wheel area), but not the engine warranty, not the brakes warranty, etc.

My stock tyres are Bridgestone I think.
Haven't checked anywhere else yet, but thought it'd be a good excuse to get some new rims :D

Hopefully the Civic's suspension doesn't do anything stupid...

Hi Guys,

sort of off topic, but related...

If I want to upgrade my rims to 18" without lowering the car (still saving up for the coilovers later), would it looks crap? how about the handling? Have any1 done this before? pics?

Thanks

I'm thinking of going for the same wheels but going 18" instead... wouldn't be a defect right? Width increases by 1" I think.

xenfacta

shouldnt be an issue with the sport. the car wont look bad if u dont lower, the overall diameter is pretty much the same, so how ur ride looks now

Hey Jorn, do a little bit of shopping around before you decide to buy from Tempe Tyres. When I was asking for a price for the rims I wanted, they wouldn't budge the price at 1450 and were rude/arrogant. At Payless Tyres @ chullora, they provided me with very good custumer service (in comparison to other tyre shops hehe..) and I got the same rims as the tempe ones for 1350. :thumbsup:

got the 18 inch elegance wheels. Don't copy pls. :P, Don't know the offset but profile is 40/225. It's nothing flashy, but i'll do a photoshoot when I put the new front lip and fit the rear bumper bar back on (currently at the repair shop).

hahaha... tempe's people all like that. kind of L*** people, sorry not racist offense. just in general. but to be honest, they have the most complete rims (from Asanti $5000 to crap $800):D
