hey guys,

just getting some new rubber, for everyday driving on a set of 17"s. currently have 215/40/17 i think? and thinking of getting 205s.

i've seen some Entyre brand tyres go for $75 but this would not be fitted. wondering if anyone has had experience or heard of these?

Otherwise I may go the Nankang option which is for $100 each fitted...

appreciate some advice.

thanks!

Haven't tried those before but I would advice in getting good set of tyres as it plays a major role in safety as well. Have a look at Bridgestone and Hankook. Good tyres are also quieter and don't wear as fast.

never heard of them....which isnt a good sign.
even for normal street driving id advise you to atleast go nankang, they are cheap and nasty but they are the best of the cheap and nasty before you get into the big boys like Yokohama and bridgestone.
even going from bridgestone to nankang for normal street driving on 17s i found braking to feel alot more unstable, but the nankangs are ok for cheap rubber, entyre sounds like dodgy chinese rubber, like a brand i saw on a customers car once called 'linglong' hahaha, even sounds dodgy

Spend a bit more for safety mate.
Not worth $1-200 for a life.

I can't say I've ever sampled Entyre before but a quick check reveals that their retail division is positioned as a wholesale exporter of second hand tyres and it would be this same faculty that you would probably be liasing with to procure tyres. That, together with the non-indication that Entyre possesses its own personal product line would lead me to assume that Entyres are in fact just rebadged used tyres; which according to Entyres:

"... have even shoulder-to-shoulder tread wear, with no ripped beads, no weathering or sidewall cuts nor any internal or external separations." (http://www.entyre.com.au/secondhand.htm)

I'm not a hater but all I see here is the technical recreation of the word, "recycled", which (imho) you should not be pacified into accepting on the equivalent level as "used", much less "new" regardless of price. I am fairly confident that the general OH populace will agree that recommisioned tyres don't really belong on any binge-list save for a handful of dire circumstances. Fyi, it (recommisioned) isn't quite the same as an "80-85% tread left" ad.

Bias to insurance brands aside, part of A*MI's Repair Policy Guidelines reads as:

TYRES
Only new tyres are to be supplied. Retread and recycled tyres are not acceptable. If retread tyres are fitted prior to the accident refer this to your local A*MI assessor as an owner contribution may apply. (http://www.a*mi.com.au/a*mi_customer_service/repairers/repair-policy-guidelines.asp)

Even one of the stingiest industries knows when not to save.

If Entyre or Nankang are your absolute choices, I would tend towards the Nankang, and then some. If not, do yourself a favor and spend time in the Suspension/Handling section where the tyre gurus reside.

Would you stake your life for $75*4 = $300?

There are plenty of tyres in the forsale section. Most of them are good! Well as can be anyway :)
