View Full Version : Modifying my Stock ECU P28 to not look for VTS-VTEC Spool Solenoid??

Hey Guys
Anyone know any easy ways to Modifying my P28 not to look for the 21 (http://b16a2.kicks-ass.net/diy/pgmfi/mil/pgmfi-code-21.gif) VTS (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68997) - VTEC Spool Solenoid ?
Now the e-manage blue has taken over the VTEC cross over point the stock ECU is still looking for the VTEC Spool Solenoid..
ECU-MAN can do it no problems but he's not in Sydney and my project car is also my work car and I can't be without it for any period of time..
Both my brothers are AV PB makes and I work for an AV company so soldering will never be a problem if needed.. lol
Thanks Guys

needs to be disabled in the code. Do you have access to burning eproms?

Hey ProECU
My ECU's not chipped so having access to ROM burner won't help?

doesnt the emanage have a feedback output wire for VTS back to the ecu?
Just connect D6 to A4

You would think so wouldn't you but I don't think so and I'm using the very costly plug & play harness :thumbdwn:
Would just bypassing the e-manage and connecting VTS wire affect the e-managements ability to control the VTEC?
I've not opened my stock ECU but the back has

Any chance you can tell me how to find D6 to A4?
In pic forum would be awesome

do a search on the net for a pic. I dont keep pics coz its second nature to me.

Dose the odb1 B16A have the same as my D16Y1 pin setup?
ie

D6-VTM VTEC pressure switch Light Blue (Purple on the e-manage), to A4-VTS VTEC solenoid GRN/YEL, (Blue on the e-manage)
Are you should connecting them will work?

Correct.

Correct.
Cool
I'll go and give it a shot...
I do it on the ECU side or the wiring loom side?
Thanks

jump the emanage vtec signal and connect to ecu side of VTP

jump the emanage vtec signal and connect to ecu side of VTP
NICE!!
The error codes gone
Now I'm off for a test drive to check if VTEC's working
Then I'll solder em in :)
PS my ECU has all the wrong colours lol

OK
I've just grounds the D6-VTM VTEC pressure switch Light Blue, n/a using a 5k resistor
Seems to work fine :)
Can someone confirm this is OK?

Yeah I think I did and every time I hit VTEC the error code would back till i turned off the ignition...
I bridged the Blue and purple wires on the GReddy Harness witch are D6 & A4
http://www.greddy.com/img/PHP/products/pdf/1245.pdf
Page 10
Can you please confirm I bridged the correct wires?
Plus the D6 and A4 are not the colours listed
both are some like brown and orange or something close to that
Thanks man

The purple wire connected to D6 is there to fool the ecu, it shouldnt need any mods. If you want to bridge the wires you will need to do it to the harness not the vehicles loom.

Yeah I did that and its works fine till I hit VTEC then I get an error code on the dash and again..
Turn off then on and its gone till VTEC

Either your loom or emanage must be fautly. Have you touch tested your loom with a multimeter?

No but I might test it tonight but what I'm a looking for?
I don't think is faulty as there quite a few people with the same problem

This is what others have done
You'll need to add a wire to your harness to the VTM pin and run it to a relay using the VTS as the trigger.
The VTP voltage follows the VTS, so just wire up a relay that will trigger 12v with the VTS and also send 12v to the VTP when VTEC engages. At idle and off-vtec, the VTP needs to see 0v.
I was hopping for an easier way lol

Thats the easiest way. Without the relay, it will always throw this code.

So I go bridge the VTM wire with the VTS wire and a relay in the middle..?
what relay should I use?
ProECU

you dont need a relay.
Find the vtec signal going from the emanage to the ECU - jump that signal and wire it to the input signal of the VTP.
DONE.

Hm
OK
e-mange has Purple (VTM Putput) I think is ""input"" and its a misprint..
Yellow (VTEC Output)
Light Blue (TEC Input)
So witch ones are the ones I should be bridging ProECU?
Thanks man

seems like Putput is actually output (the O key is next to P)
what is VTM? If its vtec pressure then connect this wire to the VTP of the ECU. You will need to sever the engine side of the wire (leave it loose) and connect the VTM to the ECU side of VTP.
Failing that - splice yellow & connect to VTP in the same fashion just described.

Going by the this the purples attached to C6 VTM (D6) I think

what wires the VTP
But his sounds like you now bypassed the e-mange for VTEC?

I tried your way of bridging D6 to A4 and that only works till VTEC kicked in..
Cleary the relay is needed or ells others would have just done it this way?

cut the purple wire from the emanage and connect the ECU side of the wire to the light blue wire. If you use the yellow wire it will still throw a code because the vtec point is now different to factory setting. If you have already tried this just ignore me LOL

Okies now we get technical, obviously the emanage doesn't mimic the VTS good enough so you will have use a relay and wire it like this;
terminal 30 on the relay splice to the light blue wire
terminal 86 on the relay join to the purple wire on the ecu side
terminal 85 and 87 on the relay splice in to a ground wire such as Ecu terminal A26

The purple wire does not need to be connected to the emanage as the relay has taken over the job of the VTP. In short, when the ECU kick in vtec(not emanage) it will engage the relay to short the VTP wire to ground.
I hopes this works because i am now out of ideas LOL

Are sure?
The e-manage harness has gone to extra steps to connect the purple wire..
will cutting the purple still allow the e-mange to change VTEC crossover?
Thanks bro

all the purple wire is meant to do is stop the engine light coming on on an OBD1 car.

mate i totally stuffed up that relay:o, the VTP is a naturally closed switch. Try this;
30 and 85 ground
86 light blue
87a purple

I bit more info would be nice ;)
ie cut, bridge or splice?
at that point do I join...
ie ECU, Stock loom or e-manage harness?
Thanks heaps

All fixed
Not sure why though...
Got my car back from getting the HG changed and everythings working fine..
No error code and VTec works via e-manage
