hey guys 1st post, I have been looking at getting a new honda for a couple weeks now and today i drove past a car yard and saw a 1998 EK VTi Coupe (is that an em1?) for $11,999 with power everything, immobliser and with 96,000 kms on the clock, besides that is stock as a rock. dunno just looks like a good base to start working on

A. is it decent for how much it is

B. if yes what should i be looking at with the car (like so nothing goes unlooked)

No, em1 would not be at the price for starters! plus em1 is 99-00 secondly i would say that would be an ej8 maybe could get a better price but i would buy private sale anyways, dealer usually rips you off!

that is an EJ8, the base model in a sense of the EM1 , the EJ8 comes with SOHC 1.6L motor with some sort of vtec, while the EM1 comes with the DOHC 1.6L VTEC motor, that is one difference, aside from the exterior / interior. I would be trying to drop that price down to 10k perhaps, its got good KM's on it, average KM's as expected, dont know how the body is, that for you to judge, best thing to look for when it comes to faults, ask for log books, see if any major was has been done to it and if so the reason for it, if you dont know much about cars yourself, recommend having someone you know with more experiance to have a look at it, or a RACQ guy. But in general in the engine bay, look for leaks, wear / tear anywhere in the bay in general, take it for a spin and see for yourself

RACV are shit dont worry bout them they dont do nothin usful.

get a reputable mechanic to check the car and make sure he knows Hondas.

I share similiar sentiments with RACWA. I don't know about RACQ but don't just rely on one inspection source.
