Hi guys.
Tried searching but no luck.
Im in the process of building a b20z vtec, and wanted to know if its possible to use the b18c5 rod bolts? Or if i should just buy arp bolts. Im in cape town SA and parts sometimes are hard to get.
At the moment i have a ls/vtec with eagle rods and arias pistons, now would the arp bolts from the eagle rods fit the standard rod bolts on the b20z?
Thanx.
Measure them up and see how they are, but i dare say it wouldnt be worth seperating the rods from their bolts and either source a set of new rods for the new motor or new bolt for your stock rods if your intention is to keep them.

I thought so too. I was told the b18c5 rod bolts work in the b20s but he never sounded too confident. I think i will just get me another set of arp bolts.

The VTEC engines use 9mm rod bolts and the LS/B20 rods use 8mm
You need ARP Part# 208-6001 8mm Rod Bolts

Thanks bru, i ordered a set today. Is it totally, absolutely and entirely required to replace the stock rod bolts on a B20vtec? I ask this, cos a guy here in cape town with one of the fastest N/A B20s is using stock bolts with no problems what so ever.
But personally for peace of mind i think i will just get them, they not too expensive anyway.

An engine is only as strong as its weakest link.....
I did it for peace of mind when Im spinning the engine over 8000rpm

Hey guys.
I had an unfortunate incident with my ls/vtec and was forced into fitting the B20z earlier than expected. So now i never got around to getting the rod bolts. Long story.:thumbdwn:
Now, i dont plan on revving anything over 8000rpm with this motor, i am restricted by the ecu in this regards. I remember with my B18b with crower 403s i ran stock valvetrain revving to 7900rpm on a daily basis. No problems what so ever.
Another thing, i was told when fitting the arp bolts, it is necessary to have the entire rotating assem. balanced again. Is this True?

You'll be ok to 8000rpm.
Tinkerbell's been doing just that for ages.
Re rod bolts...
Normally we only close & hone the big ends when the rod bolts are changed.
If you're real fussy, then yeah, balance them & have them shot peened too.
(NB: Cost of all this is close to cost of Eagle or Manley rods)
FWIW, I think the Manley product is better.

Thanks toda au, u've been a great help.
I agree, the manley product from what i've read seems better, but here in SA we pay through our asses for these things.:thumbdwn:
