ok, my cousin just recently bought a civic vti eg 5 i think he said it was, said it was sohc and had no vtec d16

my mate has a civic vti, but im not sure what eg model he has, but he said he has dohc vtec

ok, so would my mate with the civic vtec have eg6? is car is automatic too, and yeah, was wondering if his engine was either d16 or b16

and do eg6 come with the b16... or what?? or does no eg come with the b16.. just wondering, because i think i told my mate he has a d16.. but now im not too sure since his said his got dohc vtec, and he originally said he had a b16.. so i dont wanna be saying the wrong shit too him.. his original rocket cover was black i think.. so im guessing it was a b16? but yeah... someone helP

If your mate has dohc vtec, its a b16a2, its the australian delivered vti-r. Unless it was a conversion. An EG vti is a SOHC vtec, and is a d16. EG6 is a JDM model civic, which come with the jap spec B16a

eg6 = b16a only in manual
eg5 - d16y manual/auto

basically look at his rocket cover if his plugs are in the middle its dohc if the plugs are on the bottom of the rocket cover its sohc.

quickest way to solve this issue is to pop the bonnet and look at the engine...

you can easily tell whether its SOHC or DOHC...

you can look at the size of the rocket cover...

SOHC D16... from ecu-mans diy...

DOHC B18c but the JDM B16A just has a black rocker cover, othwise they look the same... from ecu-man diy...

lol rocket cover...

everyone says that... its 'rocker' cover haha

yeah easy to tell dohc has 2 raised strips with plugs in the middle and sohc has only one raised strip with plugs on top

vtec motors say 'vtec' on the top... unless stated otherwise or modded lol

look at the 2 motors in the pictures above, the silver one only has one hump on top of the motor with one cog on the right hand side... (one cam) - single over head cam (sohc)
the red one has two humps on top of the motor with two cogs on the right hand

by motors i mean 'engines' (lol sorry)

u can tell if the engine has vtec - they have vtec written on the rocker cover lol

The big "DOHC VTEC" on the b16 is generally a good indication of whether it's dohc vtec or not....
