Hey guys

I've got a 08 FD1

Have done about 1500km's now and just had my 1st month service. From the logbook, the next service due is 10,000kms or 6 mths which ever comes first.

Just wondering, is it okay to service every 5k's instead of 10k's and any benefits since its a brand new car.

Also, planning to take it to somewhere cheaper in the future to do my servicing instead of the dealership where its usually a dodgy job.

Would a workshop such as Hanny's Performance void the warranty of the new vehicle if servicing is done by them?

Where have you guys been servicing ur FD's

It's ok but pointless to service every 5k. Go every 10k/6mth.

You can service it anywhere provided they use honda 'approved' parts/fluids and keep warranty.

i wouldnt say its pointless.

if you do a lot of stop-start driving, or drive hard, your oil might not last the distance and there could be some benefit in changing it early.

in the past, i have had the logbook services every 10 000km, and changed the oil myself every 5000km.

basically, why I asked was because I do a alot of start-stop driving.
Car is used a daily to and from work and on the weekends
Do a average of about 60km's per day.
I had the car for less than a 1 month now and its got 1700KM's on the dial.
So I feel there is a need for additional servicing?
Any opinons and thoughts into this

60kms a day is not extreme. I was doing 8km a day before. That was extreme and bad for the engine (and fuel consumption)

ahh crap. I only do about 80km a week. Then my engine is stuffed :(

Nah, but you do qualify for the extreme service schedule. :)

If you read your service book you will notice it is recommended to change the oil every 5,000km under extreme conditions. extreme conditions in this instance means stop start city driving. I guess the bottom line is how long do you intend keeping the car.....if u intend to keep it long term i believe 5,000km oil change intervals are a must. Personally, i change eng oil & filter every 5000km and auto trans oil every 20,000km.

ahh. Ive serviced my car 2 times already.
1st - 1k service
2nd - 5k service
3rd - In 2 weeks time

Car only done about 10k. Should be extreme enough or not?

Is it true according to Eastwood Honda, with the new civic, oil does not need to be changed until the first 10,000km?

Looks like I fall under that category, as im a start stop city driver daily. Looks like i'll be going for 5k intervals as I do intend to look after this car best as a possible down for the long run. :D

Start stop city driving is not as extreme as doing a very low number of kms per trip.

That's what most dealers (and the service booklet) tell us with the newer Honda models.
