Sounds like your tappets need adjusting or an exhaust rattle.Probably best to take it to a mechanic if your not confident, but it sounds an easy fix.

It could be a lot of things that is causing the tapping

where is the clicking coming from....

injectors make a ticking sound, can be quite loud sometimes.nothing wrong if its them, they just make noise
or could be tappets need adjusting (im not familiar with s2000 setup)

when does the sound happen

if its only on warm starts and intermittent then it's probably the timing chain auto-tensioner

more details might help diagnose the problem over the internet

ok when you start the car , its warm , then it starts making the noise its a click while i watch the pulleys on the front of the engine it just keeps making this clicking noise as it spins its coming from the engine though

does the sound ever disappear after driving for awhile. say 20mins

for me i had that sound on warm starts only. the sound will disappear as you drive

on cold starts you dont get the tapping

the sound can best be described as a baseball card touching the wheel of a bicycle. and as the bike moves it makes the card flick

dunno if i made myself clear

it's normal for most hondas.

It's just your injectors ticking, it's very noisy and it's normal.

You could hear the noise in accord & integra as well.

DW too much about it.

from what you described i would GUESS its the timing chain auto tensioner

they go for around $350 from honda and can be replaced yourself.

i had mine replaced under warranty by honda when my car was on 42,000km

i had the chain, chain guide and autotensioner replaced. problem never came back

the sound you hear is the timing chain's links hitting the guide. and the point of the autotensioner is to tighten the chain. but when that fails and your car is hot, the chain expands and thus hits the guide making the ticking sound you hear.

go get it checked by a mechanic so that they can either prove it IS the chain or prove its NOT the chain

hope this has helped

and BTW. i would suggest going to hanny's. when i took my car to trivett classic at parramatta. i had a printout of the thread on S2KI with me to show them the symptoms and fix. otherwise they would've taken much longer to find the fault

heres a link on S2KI that describes the problem

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=320897&st=0

theres also a DIY on page 2 if you were to attempt to do the replacement yourself

how they describe the sound is a card in the spokes of a bicycle

Can this also apply to a 96 Civic.I got the same sounding problem.I thought it was the bolt in the exhaust (it was that too...) but there's the same sound happening.

no. the civics have a timing BELT

the S2000 have a chain that does not need replacing for the life of the engine.

the chain will shrink when cold and loose when hot as its metallic

Oh,no way!
I think mine could be the valves.I need to replace the cold air control Valve on the TB then correct the timing.Hopefully that should fix the problem,if not I'll ask for advice then :)

could be valve clearance as well

that should be done at every 40,000km or so but i can't be sure

especially if you tend to give the car heaps. the clearance checks should be done

Cheers but it's not that since they have been adjusted just 2 weeks ago.My car runs heaps better when the valve clearance is adjusted.
