Hey guys,

What are your thoughts on hard mounting engines? I am putting a D15 into my 79 civic and am now tossing up between hard and soft mounting. Ideally i have heard soft mounting would be better, but it will cost much more than hard mounting.

Has anyone had experience with engine harmonics damaging parts of the car/engine such as drive shafts, CV joints and certain parts of the chassis?

The car will be used 100% for hill climbs etc so the bumpy ride does not really bother me.

Your thoughts woud be great,

Campbell

The Hi-Comp Civic's engine is solid mounted. Its a bit rough on the body at idle and very low revs but once your up to any speed you really don't notice it. The car must have done over 150 passes without any sign of cracking in the mounts, gearbox, or engine.

You will have less chance of breaking driveshafts and CVs provided you set the engine up in the correct position with the driveshafts not pointing forward or backward. Remember you'll have no movement of the engine.

If its a "race" car - Hill climbs and you don't care about comfort...then get the hardest mounts you can get.

i'll let you know how it feels in the next couple of weeks

You should also look at reinforcing your chassis engine mount brackets.

Thanks guys, yes i am thinking about running extensions of the cage into the front of the car. I think i will be hard mounting this now, save the money for other things.
