Toyo R888

Hey all,

my RT 215's are pretty much finished, and im looking at tracking and drag racing in the next month whilst im on break from study...

Ive been recommended the Toyo R888's... Any views or commentary? grip levels on the street in the wet? longevity?

R888's for street use..
From new (5-6mm tread) to about 2-3mm tread was about 10,000km for me and I drive like a granny (no hard cornering or anything). What I'm trying to say is that longevity is shit.

Commentary:
- My set that I had made a wierd like whirring kind of noise at 60-63km/hr, which was abit irritating.
- I think it has better grip level than Kumho V700 (my current tyre)
- From what I remember it had a tendancy to hydroplane a little
- Nice tread design

I can't comment on the track/drag side as I've never taken my car there.

For street use alone I'd choose the Kumho V700 tyre over this one
(r888 vs V700 is the only comparison I can make from experience).

hmmmm well id probably put 10,000kms on ym car in a year....

im used to the whirring noise from my rt215's

i have only used r888 on my dc2r for drag racing on the front obviously........
i cant complain, excellent grip on the track for me and i did drive to and from work with and to the drags with them on the car, found it had heaps more grip, i never tried them in the wet, and 10,000km's for semi slicks on the street is pretty good, as they are a very soft compound,

so kyobibi i'm not sure what you expected from a semi slick tyure for every day, i wanted to run them as a daily tyre as well, but my tyre place advised me that they would be lucky to last 10,000km's on the street the way i drive, so i opted for michellen pilot proceedure 2 for daily use, and its off topic, but i even used the michellen's at winton track day and they held up fine...........

Best is, don't use Semi's on street...waste of money...just get a set of nice tyres will do you just fine...
and, don't use semi's on Drag...Drag radial is the way to go...Smth like MT..
For track, RE55s would be a better choice...for me..In winton, I guess any good street tyres would give up if you give it a hard 3 lap...

Make sure you get the new R888's and not the outdated ones which goes for cheap. You get what you pay for....

i got the R888's last Thursday.... my fiorst impressions are

1) **** they are soft
2) how the **** did i used to take that corner
3) **** they are noisey!

For what i use my car (not a lot) they are fnatastic, i am very pleased with them, but i didnt realise the compsomise for street use IN TERMS OF NOISE) was so great, having said that it doesnt have an interior in it at the moment so that adds to it...

But yeh, after Wakefield this Thursday i may considering getting a second set of rims for the street... or i might just harden the **** up and get over it...

my only regret is the road noise... cant have everything

I wasn't complaining or anything, I love running semi's for everyday driving.

Great semis for the track, i wouldn't use them on the street as they don't wear well, im onto my second set, get 5-6 trackdays out of them.

What are the rating on the R888's? I heard there's like GG,GGG,SG and etc.

i was well aware of the parallel import issues, i got them from Yonas at JDMYard... he made me aware of the parallel import issue...

They are medium compound, dunno the rating fatboy

generally ripping into 2nd in a dc2r will be harder with semi's.
