For a while now I have been noticing a rattling sound when taking off. It doesnt always happen and seems to be based on take off technique. On faster clutch release it can be reporduced easier. If i take off slowly or ride the clutch like a granny I cant hear it. It is only in the first gear when taking off.

I have a 96 4th gen Vtir with 150.xxx kms - all stock

Anybody have a simlar problem?

could be an engine mount...
could be a dead cat

where is the sound coming from ?

Its more of a metalic rattling, rather then a engine mount, but couldnt be i guess, its hard to localize it exactly but sounds like bottom of engine bay more to the driver side, when i drive next to walls or parked cars can hear it alot better, could it be uneven wear on the clutch ? I read something similar on a forum once

sounds like how mine was.
i would say your cats on the way out.

if i am right, and it is your cat, you should get it replaced sooner rather than later.
i have left mine too long and now the car is acting like a bitch.
sounds loud as hell but feels like its towing 4 tons the whole time.
getting a new car on wednesday...should fix the issue.

lol im going with teh tictacs in teh glovebox

nah sound like a heat shield either under the bonnet or
under the car theres a thread here sumwhere about civics and how they
have these rubber grommets that were poorly designed and wear out, on just about
every civic owner who replied to the thread...

dunno where its the same though

Could be a loose exaust.

Does it rattle when its cold and your taking off? I had the same problem with my exaust but once it begins to warm up it goes away..... :S

I've had this exact problem - I eventually found that the bracket near the cat converter that mounts to the headers had cracked in half... When you drive the 2 halves vibrate together (makes that rattling sound)... I rang a few wreckers and they all said that this was a common with fault with the 4th gen ludes...

Fix: get the bracket welded....

Radiator need's to be flashed or you've got a cracked head gasket, could be simple things to like low coolant or low oil

my oil dip stick is in the middle.. coolant not oily... car pulls well too.. (not just my own opinion..) the sound described here manifests itself when i'm taking off and use more clutch than throttle... (my engagement point is very low..) Not sure about the thread starter's situation..

I have a 94 vtir mate and had a similar problem. When i upgraded the exhaust it dissapeared.
However a 'rattling sound' is pretty vauge so could be numerous things.
