Ive got a 8th Gen MY07 Civic VTi, does anyone know and give me ideas on what i should mod into my car to get it a little bit faster? Does the AFC- neo not work on this engine? [coz read from other posts, vtec controllers dont work, so does that also mean the AFC Neo?]

Short answer: Intake or Turbo the R18 engine.
Long answer: Read up on how the ivtec in the R18 engine works; then it'll explain why standard vtec gear won't work.

EVEN IF vtec controller "worked" for the R18a engine... it wouldn't improve the engine. If you want the FD to go faster pull out your back seats and the door and roof trimmings for a start. Or turbo it.

Have fun!

try from the easiest first :
1. iridium spark plugs + grounding cables (incl.spark plug)
2. CAI
3. NST light pulley
4. Exhaust
5. Unichip
6. Turbo
7. -sell & buy EVO X :-)

1. Comes with iridiums stock? Mine does. New car's grounding and spark cables are good, don't need aftermarket
2. AFM will go bonkers and throw CEL.
3. Small gain.
4. Sound only
5. Can it handle VTEC at any RPM?
6. Good.
7. Either #6 (turbo) or EVO X. Maybe even Ralliart Lancer.

hahah you guys are funny, i got rid of my wrx and brought the civic to save petrol i was sick of paying premium...i love it the way it is...personally i dont think its worth modding to make it faster....but thats jsut me

in hindsight i shoulda got the sports...leather..sunroof...

[QUOTE=aaronng;1588052]1. Comes with iridiums stock? Mine does. New car's grounding and spark cables are good, don't need aftermarket

yap, but "normal" iridiums. changed to HKS S35 IL/VOLKER 6ZX-11/NGK IRIDIUM MAX/Brisk Premium DOR14LGS -->Indeed the firing is very strong and good
adding Pivot Razin Stabilizer grounding kit -->If u are looking for throttle response, that should help better

2. AFM will go bonkers and throw CEL.
3. Small gain --> small here + small there = medium ;)
4. Sound only --> not if u goes mugen twin loop
5. Can it handle VTEC at any RPM? --> after 2k
6. Good.
7. Either #6 (turbo) or EVO X. Maybe even Ralliart Lancer.

well, sometimes it's not about faster than or fastest, it's coz we like mods, just like a hobby. if want faster car, i'm sure, we all could affort get Evo or Sti;)

Those "hi-po" iridiums give how much power? 1kW?

Those "hi-po" iridiums give how much power? 1kW?

well, aaronng, hard to tell exact extra KW from this "easiest+cheapest" mods.
but we can feel better throttle+response. can't expect get much from this under $200 mods:) and also sometimes we can't do mathematically for mods. ie. if put CAI alone (let's say) get 2 kw extra, combine with HKS iridium and pivot get 3kw extra, but doens't mean HKS+pivot alone will boost 1 kw.

my point is start from easiest+cheapest first, if not satisfy, add other mods.
small gain+small gain = better. better+small gain=good. good+small gain=nice, and .... let's say :
1. iridium+pivot -->small gain & <$200, not satisfy? just add
2. CAI --> <$300, still not satisfy? add
3.exhaust --> let's say $1000, not enough ? add :
4. unichip (fd1) or hondata (fd2) --> $1000, want more ?
5. Turbo.

but with turbo (usually >1bar), will much more complicated, don't think internal engine (pistons, etc) can hold turbo power unless we install low boost turbo (for daily use) about 0.4 - 0.7 bar.
i think HKS have this kind of turbo (Turbo HKS T25) for Jazz and swift (not sure for FD), only works about 0.4 - 0.7 bar without changing internal engine (assume JDM engine = AUDM Jazz).

that's my share.:cool:

well, hard to advise u, once again it depend on u. if u like it and confuse where to put ur left over money, just do it, hahaha..
but to be honest, i still "bow" to engine warranty :D

personally i think f*ck the engine its ok as it is. just get some coilovers, strut/sway/ etc etc bars, rims, good tyres and brakes, and ur set for a whole lot more fun than any "bolt on crap" can offer ya

Visual wise YES Performance wise NOPE.

1. You will most certainly void your warrenty & insurance
2. There isn't a really high performance mod for FD yet except turbo (which is only available in another country)
3. Small mods(If too much)= Decrease in value of your car.

In the long run civic is still new and a family car. If you are really power hungry then go for the big boys. example. WRX, EVO, SKYLINE etc.

Personally i wont be touching the civic anymore. i'm getting a Autech Silvia S15 soon from japan :p

I also decided not to touch performance (except maybe a Mugen exhaust if I get round to it) anymore. No point. Rather buy my Evo :)
