hey guys just a few questions:

1. do u guys find it hard to close the hood without slamming it? cause i heard slamming it causes the cf to fuk up etc. so i tried putting it down and pushing against it, it eventually popped in but i had to give it a few goes.

2. do u guys find with ur cf hood that its really soft?

3. does excess heat ruin the cf by any chance?

4. where did u guys get u hood from and did it come with an ADR cert or did u guys go to RTA to get it inspected and get it signed off there? if so how much did it cost?

thanks

dont think it'd ever be ADR compliant at all

as its illegal altogether

my c/f hood closes fine, doesnt popup.
and its not soft.

it does fade if it sits in the sun for too long, just buff it out.

nah mine doesnt pop up closes fine, but do u gota push down on the hood firmly to get it in?

so ur cf hood is hard all around like the normal oem 1 yeh? cause mines hard all around but if i put a bit of pressure right in the middle it feels kinda soft

cf hoods in my experience are annoying to deal with, I've had a sprinter come in with a cf and I couldn't close the bloody thing, I didn't wanna force it to close as I was afraid I might damage it. Anyway the owner had this ghetto set up to hold it down (like bonnet pins but instead it was a seatbelt tied to something)

Adjust the rubber stops on either side of the radiator support. That will give the bonnet have a bit more clearance.

rubber things, you can twist them up or down

another fix is adjusting your bonnet latch thing(the thing which the bonnet hook on to close)
might have to remove your grille to unbolt it though
if its the same as my ek, theres 3 bolts, loosen then and nudge it up a bit and test close it
repeat until it closes easily :)

Looks like a black rubber knob. Turn it clockwise about 1/2 circle to make it go deeper and try closing the bonnet. If it is too deep, the bonnet will rattle when you go over rough roads. So you need to keep adjusting to get the perfect setting.

Be weary, its not uncommon for bonnets to warp if you leave them open with the stock support bar for extended periods. i'm talking days.

what do u mean by warp? and do u mean by the sock support bar the thing that holds the bonnet open?

thru personal experience in melb, cf/fibre glass hoods are fine... i've asked both a cop (who was inspecting my car) as well as vic roads, same deal... as long as it's secured, all good.

as for care, if can keep it clean and out of the sun as much as possible, it will be less likely to fade. if anyone's seen Stitch's bonnet, it's like brand new and he got it same time as me, different brand tho. my bonnet has some minor water/dirt spots stained on the top clear coat cos i didn't keep it as clean and used to park in the sun abit... anyway i've given it a good cut and polish and it's almost like new again. there's a thread in diy that shows how to refurbish ur cf...

No worries. If it rattles, just turn anti-clockwise 1/4 turn and test. Eventually you'll get the perfect adjustment point.

i've had my CF bonnet for about 2 years...and after about 15 months it faded and had swirls..got it cut and polish and that fixed it! but then i had small swirl marks come back.

So i got it sanded back and clear coated. I think that a lot of the CF-FRP bonnets are gel coated? And apparently gel coats are not as durable as actual clear coat for paint/panels? I've only had the clear coat on for a few months...but no problems..comes up brand new every time!

Treat your CF bonnet like car paint. Wash and wax regularly. I'd wax the CF bonnet every month.

Imo it doesn't... many car parts are made for the engine bay, intakes, bonnets - even that r34 gtr z-tune had cf lined in the engine bay for strength. Sunlight is different, it kills everything! Anyway i haven't heard anyone with a cf hood being damaged by engine heat...

Those guys probably use dry carbon, which is more expensive and lighter/thinner. If you buy a cheap CF hood, it's usually made from wet carbon, and the epoxy is the part that gets damaged by the sun.
