Try and drive a couple and see how they feel against each other.
You will definitely feel the difference between a crap condition type r and a good condition type r.
But yeah as said before.
Type R drivers that are usually pedantic about keeping there car in good condition will most likely have seats in good condition instead of plonking their ass down on the bolster.
If they are careful enough to keep good condition of their seats they usually maintain the car well.
Just make sure to check the log books as well to see everything matches up.

make sure the engine is warm.. then give it a fang.. make sure vtec is working, abs works, etc. etc.
make sure there's no rattling noises, if there are, check out where they're coming from..

Was just about to say broken engine mounts.
obviously also look for all the normal things u look for I.E oil/water leaks, etc.
make sure Vtec engages
doesnt blow any colour smoke
ABS work -
Feel the clutch if it feels notchy u might need to check the Master Cylinder.
condition of seats, interior, carpets..
Im just going over what the others have said.
Look for the engine code B18C7
5 Lugs
when u brake kinda hard make sure it doesnt pull to either side.

main thing though is to check thst the engine is healthy as u dont want to buy a money trap.
easiest way to do that is to check gor smoke, just starting the engine up wont show smoke. start the motor then let it run for a few minutes ( check other things while you do this to save time) then once its been running for a while give the accelerator a few quick stabs and watch the back of the car (even better to have a mate standing at the back of the car. if it doesnt smoke after that then is should be right, if it does its showing that the piston rings and valve stem seals are buggered.
check for obvious leaks between the block and head although even if its clean doesnt mean its not leaking ( a overly clean engine bay is sometimes a sign of this ) take her for a good drive then pop the bone again and have another look.
check that gear selection is nice and easy ( hondas are known for having one of the best gearboxes ) so it shouldn't be hard to tell that the gearbox is in good condition.
again, check vtec operation, listen for the engine note to change at around 5000rpm (correct me if im wrong) if thats not a dead giveaway the kick in the arse will be.
listen for noises eg. wheel bearings and suspension bushes. you want these to all be tight and smooth in operation.
and what everyone else has said, interior blah blah blah.
hope that helps dude.

I'd say get some honda friends with car knowledge to come with you to check out the car!
or
else have a look ur self etc.. and if u really like it ask them ; is it possible to take it to a mechanic check, this process would take awhile .. then they'll tell u if its worth it or not. ruffly $50 bucks a check.. thats if u really want the car then do so more garrentee no breakdowns,
Good luck with the car!

if u dont know anything about hondas i would (imo) do a bit of research before your purchase
DC2 type-r is an amazin car tho, and u wont loose either way =D
check for vtec - run the car for about 10mins, the oil needs to warm up because vtec wont work without good oil pressure (u will have to do this for every drive u want to use vtec on)
after the 10 min warm up, go for a drive to where there is a 0-110km zone (exit onto a freeway/highway etc) and ride 2nd gear out to 7500rpm - you should hear a changeover or 'kik in' at around 6900rpm (was the point on my vti-r), if you want to test further do it in 3rd gear as well but bare in mind the speed limit lol
all other things i would suggest have been covered
also look for optional parts =) these were extras at the time of original purchase (as far as i know) that are nice bonuses for u
- flared side skirts as opposed to straight ones
- type-r floor mats
- type-r boot mat
- rear upper strut brace (goes across the middle of the boot) (may only be a jdm option)
(theres probably more)
otherwise good luck and report on how u went =)
PS - try to buy a stock one, u never know with after market parts especially when the car is as prestiges as a ITR (Integra Type-R)

honestly mate, bring a mechanic with you.
otherwise bring someone who OWNS an R. and treats it well.
none of that 'oh its like this its like that' bullshit.
at the end of the day you dont want a lemon-R

spot on xntrik
another thing to wach out for is a GSI or VTI-R done up to look like an R
looks can be deceiving, trust me lol my vti-r was very close to an R

get a revs check and a RAC check, also ask for a full service log
these will be the best way to check for a fake
some ppl also dont change the little plate, its near where u open the bonnet, just in front of the radiator, should say DC2 type-r 98 (ITR 1998) etc, mine was a vti-r so it said DC2 1994 etc
Type-R came out in Australia in 1998 i think? i know there was a japanese verson in 1996
