Hi there,

Couldn't find any information online about this...but what is/are the differences between the FD1, 2, 3 civics?

Just purchased an 08 Civic Sport, what would it be? an FD2 or 3?

I've seen some 06 Civics (the new shape) referred to as FD1.

Thanks for any info provided.

I find the "search" function in the forum kindof annoying as it doesn't allow search strings shorter than 3 characters... say I just wanna search "Civic FD", they won't allow it...

you can search shorter than 3 characters. Just put an asterix at the end of the string.

i.e. "FD*"

Amended post. I think you're right. Googled and found this;

FD1- 1.8 litre
FD2-2.0 litre
JDM TypeR (FD2R)
FD3 Hybrid
FD4 - 1.6 litre

Some countries like Singapore have it because the costs to own a vehicle go up in proportion to engine size. I'm too lazy to try and explain how the Singaporean road taxes and bidding system works so in short, smaller engine is cheaper.

FD2 uses the K20Z engine I believe.

in our sport its the k20z2
k20z3 is the one in usdm civic si with 147kw.

i would say its totally different compared to k20a and k24.

Is the k20z3 the one used in the Japanese Type R?

im pretty sure thats correct, most recent type R's are running the k20a, ep3,dc5r,JDM CTR and UK CTR. just wondering if anyone would know if the k20z have potential as the k20a's or even the k24 ?

K20Z2 has vtec only on the intake cam and lower compression. Don't compare it to the K20Z3 or the K20A2/K20A used in the Type S/Type R.

hmm aaronng..
whats the exact differences between the z2 and z3?
can we just change parts from the z3 to our z2 and make the same power?
or basically the whole engine needs to be changed?

The diffrence between the Z2 and Z3 is similar to the difference between the A2 and A3 in the base Integra and Type R. So no, you can't just change bolt on parts or the head.... You have to change the components in the block, as well as the ECU.
