Ever since i got my car last week, i think the needle has been saying hello to 8000rpm more than a few times per day.
How bad do you think this is for the car?? I'm not too familiar with honda engines but from what i've read, they dont mind hanging around redline all day long.

Should be fine as long as you
1. Don't go bouncing off the limiter
2. Shift smoothly
3. Change your oil regularly (ie every 5K)

I don't do it too often mainly when another driver annoys me then i rev it out to overtake them.... then go OOPS! ;) he he

As often as possible...hehehehe
Honda engines love it...its what there made for, otherwise why else would they have a redline at 8k

thats what i wanna hear.
just with my old car (mx6 turbo) i felt as though the thing hated seeing its redline (of a mere 6000rpm) even with the larger turbo etc on there.
i sometimes wonder if thats what contributed to its demise

Of course you will need to look after it though.....Make sure you always have oil in it.....I check mine every week...and have it serviced reguraly.

well I firmly believe that the Vtec needs its regular 'exercise' :D:D:D:D cause somehow or rather, the engine seems to make music after 5700rpm.
d00d just enjoy it. Just remember to take care of it. ;)

oh yeah, for sure.
spending a couple hours changing the oil / filter / plugs etc is a good waste of time anyway, and it helps me feel closer to the car :)
thanks for the reassurance.
i'll be vtec'ing an open window near you soon :p

I think we have been fooled into thinking from our previous cars that reaching the redline means some painful way to make power...
My ex car, 323 Astina sounds painful as you redline it at 7K.
The DC2 wants to be revved, I don't redline it as often but I do vtec it several times a day.

hahahah same
except when drivers annoy me i hit limiter, and do a nice high pitch chirp into 2nd :D
but otherwise, redline mine at least once or twice a day
and hit limiter about once a week

how does the gsi handle that mate? I only ever taken my car to redline once and that was accident, like to limit revving to 6k and under.

Hitting the limiter doesn't benefit performance so I'd try to avoid it :) A shift light really helps I find.
As people have said, should make sure the engine oil is changed often to protect it from those addictive trips to 9k :D

man, peak power is 6300rpm! so u can take it above 6k ;)
limiter kicks in around 7200rpm, so i normally change in redline about 7000rpm
it makes a wicked induction sucking noise after 6000rpm with a short ram intake and pod filter :)
but yeh, the engine mounts in my car don't like limiter :(
wanna invest in a engine torsion dampener

My thoughts exactly!
Afta driving my SIR ... hitting redline daily.. when I had to give my mate a lift home in his car (323 protoge) i felt like i was killing it when i was hittin 4k+ RPM..
But the more hondas hit redline the more they seem to love it... ^_^

lol i red line my beasty beast everytime i get out of my drive way and onto the road. Love hearing my K&N filter goin crazy of my cold air intake.
mate, my teggy tastes the redline everyday, especially friday and saturday nights when im all hyped up about the weekend out.
Although, be aware that when the limiter kickes in, the car looses alot of performance and backs of until u shift again, and so when that happens and ur having a close race with another car, that will absalutely f*ck u. As some one mentioned again, shift just below the limiter.
P.S. Guys, I never knew there was such thing as an integra cruise. IT looked awsome (the pics). My car is geting kitted and resprayed custom orange with gold pearl. I wouldnt mind having a nice cruise with the teggy crew some time soon. Can somebody tell me more about it? Thanx
