As title states,

just curious if anyone here is rocking the 4pot wilwood brake kit upgrade.

i have read some mixed reviews over at s2ki.com abt these. Some love em, some say they are crap quality.

input your views here.

Are there many differences between the brakes kits for S2000's ?
Wilwood setups are very popular in the US.

It would be interesting to compare all the "Brake Kit" prices.

Thanks

i dont think too many ppl will have willwood on here, lol

if ppl do give opinions about them, make sure he/she actually has wilwood on ther cars, lawl, and not some e-mechanic copy/paste opinion

although, the brand name wilwood is well spoken of generally

i was going to get willwood or brembo a place called race brakes were going to do it for me he said willood and brembo are hard to compare since there both good although upgrading your brakes they need to modify it to fit so your rims can clear the brake calipers but he was asking for $3500

krogoth

wattt???

they wer asking for 3.5 to fit brakes? modify the brakes??

lol, like shave the sides of the calipers??

personally, id rather avoid modification and get new wheels instead

im no expert, but i dont like the idea of modifying brakes to fit wheels, lol

He means the Brembos require customised brackets to be made up to get them to fit to the S20000 / DC5 platforms.

krogoth

custom brackets...ahk, makes sense, thnx for clarification

but custom doesnt doesnt mean modify....lol

thats y i misunderstood, lol

the spoon monoblocks arnt shit...they just didnt perform as to all the hype.

Im just looking at other options in terms of brakes upgrade.

leave it stock and learn how to drive hahaha

The Wilwood based BBKs are supposedly pretty good. One of the Sponsors on S2ki puts together a kit including rotors, brackets, and calipers but I also hear that Wilwood are introducing their own kit shortly.

But the fact is the stock brakes are pretty good. If you can drive hard for a while and then still induce ABS they are up to the task. I personally have experienced brake fade on the track but not with track pads.

And I use stock wheels for the track with R spec tyres so a true BBK is out of the question.

One option for me is a kit the US guys put together that uses stock rotors, Wilwood 4 piston calipers and custom brackets. I'll get around to it eventually.

What was the issue with them?

If it was that they require more pedal you will get that with any BBK if you don't do a corresponding master cylinder upgrade. More pistons means more surface area means more fluid.

why the need for bigger brakes ? Stock brakes are designed to work much beyond your own driving capabilities and under head load ~ unless you are drastically altering the dynamics or the power of the car why bother ?

Still running the stock 1 piston front calipers Aus?

Find they are still sufficient after the turbo upgrade?

Interested to hear your opinion since I'm looking at a bigger set of calipers for the S after the S/c upgrade.

considered ap racing?

personally the spoon brakes felt very similar to the standard dc2r caliper. I dont like the look of the wilwood dynalite calipers. I have been checking out the dynapro series and model above that. I have heard with the partshelper kit you can still use the stock wheels without a spacer??

Ben-
Yes this brakes purchase will be a combination of function/fashion. The car feels incomplete with some nice brakes, but thats just me.

Raybena-
I had AP 6 pot racing kit at home. too much hassle to fit those brakes on as it required extended studs+spacers.

lude - the stock calipers are well up to the task even after FI. I'm not sure how I'm going to explain that to engineers when I get my certificate but the fact is the car doesn't go any faster, it just gets there a whole lot quicker.

apparently the spoon calipers feel same as stock on a s2k just the heat can with last longer but the guy at race brakes said if you want good braking go for brembo or ap racing or if you can afford it endless or project mu !!! lol

good pads (feredo DS2500), braided lines all round, good rotors, good fluid. Once you have done all this and feel that braking isn't sufficient then upgrade calipers. How about changing the MC/Booster to a 1'? There only a 15/16th MC so upgrading that first might help the pedal feel and pressure.

Do you guys know anything about BDA brakes? are they good or not?

As far as I can tell BDA are a retailer. They do sell DBA rotors however.

I don't think they do calipers, i dislike the oem brake rotors that rust and the stock calipers look ugly.

This is just a theory, what if you got some BDA rotors and if they are same as oem then get a set of spoon calipers..?

Are there other calipers besides spoon?

ludecrs
05-05-2008, 06:34 AM
Wilwood, J's Racing, Rotora, Brembo, Ap Racing, Spoon, Endless.

I think those are all the BBK or 4/6 piston calipers.

The beauty of the Spoon ones is they fit the OEM rotor.

STAiN MASTER

So the only OEM replacement caliper is the spoon caliper?

I really wouldn't mind getting some BDA rotors with spoon calipers, from looking at the BDA website id be interested in the these:

DBA 4482S or DBA 4482

sent a inquiry see how much.

Edit: I was just reading that the spoon calipers don't clear the s2k's stock wheels?

AusS2000

just realised how expensive the Spoon calipers are, are there other alternatives?

Not bolt and play with stock rotors.

There are some nice Wilwood kits available in the US on S2ki. Might have to pick one up when I'm in NY in Aug.

While Wilwood kits represent excellent value for money, overall braking performance such as pad wear, clamping force and brake modulation are better with brembo (street) kits and better still with motorsport biased kits such as AP racing, Alcon etc.

As do Rotora.

spoon fit on the same brake rotor although they dont fit the wheel offset so you will probrably have to grind the edge of the caliper away or you will have to get wheel spacers or new rims

.::F[L]Y::.
05-05-2008, 09:47 PM
u can fit the spoon calipers with the standard wheels using 15mm spacer.

18" wheels may or may not clear the calipers. Depends on the design and offset of the wheels.

ludecrs
08-05-2008, 10:54 AM
I thought the Spoons were too large to fit with the OEM caliper?

Can you confirm they fit?

Can't wait for my new wheels to arrive. finally be able to slip a BBK / bigger calipers in behind them.

The joys of correct offsets, and not Work CR Kai and a ****load of camber....
